President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

There could be people in NOLA who belong to a terrorist cell and are using this catastrophe to shoot at the rescue workers. It wouldn't surprise me one bit. Also, I'll bet there are many people who are mentally ill and don't have their meds or aren't taking them correctly. Who knows what they may be thinking. I doubt the shots are coming from your basic criminal type, jmo.

That Red Cross lady deserves a medal for standing up to that race lord's lies. Expect the Red Cross to now be referred to as the White Cross in Raindow Coalition e-mails.

There are various stages that the governor of a state can invoke to get help. See the last thread about Posse Comitatus and the Governette's failure.

She *still* has not invoked the correct, highest level of aid from the Feds.

I wonder what ever happened to Jackie...who was in line at the Superdome and Jeff Goldblatt interviewed her a couple of times...

I have wondered about (and prayed for) Jackie, too! Her outlook was so refreshing. I hope she is a-okay and I hope Jeff can locate her and interview her. I hope her experience has only made her stronger and I'm so sorry that she was subjected to events at the SuperDome.

Could be - its a chemical industry center. But i think its a bunch of kids that are drunk or strung out.

"Yeah, I'm angry at them too.

They stayed behind after being told to get out. They have some responsibility here, THEY blew it first. Then they make it worse with the lawlessness. Time these 'victims' step up and accept their responsibility too."

Now maybe the rest of the country will understand better the present years of "conflict" in the South, instead of always just bashing Southerners.

"Times have changed"

They can't stand it. But the dinosaurs know that they have.

You know, I was at the grocery store yesterday, and the checker asked me if I wanted the $10 coupon out of the newspaper, if she just 'wanded' the newspaper.

I said ....sure. For the cost of 99 cents I threw the the newspaper in the trash, got $10 off my groceries, and still came out ahead. ;^)

You could also use the MSM to alert them to the situation where you family is located. They all have 800 numbers and are looking for news stories like yours.

Was she the woman who praised God for being alive? Goldblatt interviewed one who brought tears to my eyes but I never caught her name.

All the big head honchos, sitting around a big table with their legal pads and #2 pencils.

A bunch of Internet liberals were complaining back in December or November last year that there was some conspiracy afoot that involved loading folks onto rail cars and trucking them into the midwest, dumping them there into makeshift camps. Supposedly this was part of the Bush 'Nazi' campaign.

At the same time as this report circulated, FEMA was working on a report about Hurricane Ivan that nearly missed New Orleans last year. I'm really wondering if those rumors reflected thoughts about this and if the liberals scared FEMA off of using such a plan in the event that New Orleans faced a credible threat in the future?

Did you all just hear what caused that bus crash today? A passenger "confronted" the driver and demanded he stop causing the driver to lose control of the bus.

Wow. I just assumed it was tired driver.

The winch is not inboard on an HH-65 - not when it's extended for pickup.
