President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

wtf is wrong with you. reports have been coming in over wscanners for 4 nights. It's been televised on Brown's program tonight when a NOPD station was under fire last night, FNC had video of video of a firefight on this morning. The Coast Guard had a presser regarding pulling out private boats for SAR today.

You prove your point with some facts.

Did you all just hear what caused that bus crash today? A passenger "confronted" the driver and demanded he stop causing the driver to lose control of the bus.

After the crash the evacuations seemed to slow down. Probably because they have to reassess security. Maybe that is why they said only women in Children this afternoon.

I agree with you. I cannot even fathom what a lot of these people are going through. What I find odd is the people that are not in Orleans Parish talk about being glad to be alive. A lot of the ones interviewed from the Oleans Parish complain about almost everything. Makes me wonder if they are on the handout roles and expect everything to be given to them.

Have heard a lot of people not from the Orleans Parish also talk about they should have evacuated. It is like a difference of day and night between the parishes of LA.

Don't hear enough from MS or AL to have formed much of an opinion. It is Orleans Parish all the time for most of the media.

Really feel for the children and the people in hospitals/nursing homes and elderly that had no way to leave the Orleans Parish. That will be the travesty of this whole disaster IMHO. The most vulnerable were left to fend for themselves. Where were the able bodied men of Orleans Parish when needed the most?

still, I think it would help to have one official Ari Fleischer type guy who would go to a mic and talk about what efforts are ongoing.

Uh they tried that and the good mayor went ballistic, Anderson cooper had the vapors and Sheppard Smith told us all they were lying and to stop the press conferences and as the honorable mayor so eloquantly phrased it "GET OFF YOU ASSES AD DO SOMETHING BESIDES PRESS CONFERENCES".

I know, it won't help for isolated people. but for people congregated at locations where there are media people, the word would get out.

I did not see yet one Louisiana official who has shown any shred of leadership, including the Chief of Police that you mentioned din your thread. They whine and complain without presenting any solution or leadership. Now I know why they call this state "the most corrupted state in the Union".

I've only heard Col. Hunt (On O'Reilly) say that the Gov. of La. NEVER 'pulled the trigger' to request Fed. assistance. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't the Gov. of any State have to request help in order receive Fed. help? From what I understand, NG troops from one State cannot enter another State without being requested by said state's Gov. Correct? If what I've heard from Col. Hunt is correct, how can the MSM continue to critize the President and his response time. This is really bothering me and if anyone can set me straight I'd appreciate it.

...if a 20 year old that never drove a bus can take one full of victims and be the first one to the Superdome, something is F'ed up.

Did you see Greta interview him? It was awesome. I think his name was Jabar Gibson and it was so clear in his mind what had to be done. He just did it! Such clarity of mind. Another hero.

Because there are no A-130s in inventory?

*C*-130's can't drop at low level because of the buildings. If they drop at higher altitudes, they'd have to drop them on pallets, and the pallets would kill people when they landed.

They *did* use C-130s to airdrop supplies outside of NO, and they've *been* airdropping supplies cvia chopper) to the dry parts of NO since *WEDNESDAY MORNING*.

Unembalmed bodies will burst after a week in the water, and all that bacteria will spill out. It doesn't appear body recovery is going to start any time soon.

Got bad news for you, Sink.... Those bodies have been popping for days. They're sitting in hot water, infested with vermin, and the outside heat is above 90 degrees...
