President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

IMHO his job is to report what he sees (in that very small sector he reports from) and not lay blame when he's oblivious to the many who have been rescued throughout the State. Leave it to the skilless Mayor of NO to finger point and pray his days are numbered.

Well then get some hardened reporters in there that go around the city and REPORT what is happening instead of wimpy reporters. I have seen reporters that reported on accidents that knew the people that were critically injured or killed and reported the facts. On the air you never would have known.

One of those reporters talked to my daughter who is in Journalism for over a half an hour about how important it is for a reporter to make sure they stay detached and report the story and NEVER become the story where everyone is talking about the reporter not the event.

I saw it, you said it never happened. I know what you said was false, and spelled out in more detail that I had indeed seen those reports. Once again, you say it never happened. So in effect you've called me a liar. One of us is lying. I'm not. If you want to get all huffy and self-righteous, that's your choice.

No you are hearing him report about the dead bodies at the convention center. He has talked about ONE body on that bridge and he has NEVER said they died before his eyes. Hell he is only there for about 6 hours a day.

I heard from a friend in Michigan, not yet confirmed, that they may be putting them up in Red Cross & Salvation Army shelters.

That's interesting.

What has the NAACP done or any other racists black group.

Sorry, Bonnie. My TV isn't near my computer like a lot of others, so I missed it. Gotta change this arrangement or buy a laptop and sit in front of the tube.

At least we wouldn't have to worry about Gregoire going emotional- I don't think the witch has a soul. AND- I am sure she would get a lot accomplished- she would take a long look at the situation and decide...we need new taxes. We would have new cigarette and gas taxes coming right up.

Short term maybe. I don't understand what they will do when the snow flies. Big change between the weather in NO and the weather here in Michigan. They will have to adapt. We golf in the snow here.

Oh don't get me wrong. You phrased it much better than I did. And I'm still trying to catch up on 1000 or so posts, so I was just happy to see someone else was as brilliant as I was!

Interesting. I'd like to see Sheps apologists explain this photo.

Replay of the interview (with Geraldo) going on, and the assertion of "no food/no water" came from the NO Police Officer on the scene (Convention Center).

Whatever. I've had the opportunity to watch a lot of this, and have heard it plenty of times, regardless of how much it shoots down your digs at Shep. It is stupid to be wasting time arguing about it, better to go down tomorrow and volunteer at the shelters.

For those that are concerned:

WFAA - Refugees coming to the Dallas area are being processed at Big Town Mall (usually used as a convention center for gun shows, not a real shopping center) before being sent on to Reunion or their next destination.

There is a large, heavily armed police presence there.

As I said before, we don't tolerate that s*** here.

*****

Those two NO PD deserters (Mayberry brothers) are now in Grand Prairie and giving interviews with WFAA.
