There are so many buses there. Could you imagine if they were propery utilized?
In that picture I counted about 120 busses. That means 3,600 (30 per bus) people if all the busses were running. And if Mr. Mayor ordered the evacuation 12 hours earlier and had utilized the busses (big IFs, I know) then (with 3 evacuation trips per bus) we're talking about 10,000 people out of harm's way.
But then again - I believe Bush should have known that the Mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Louisana were stupid. He should have seen this coming, broken laws and the Constitution of the United States and gone down there and taken over the state, holding it (the mayor's snazzoolla) for him while he peed.

"He added "during the mandatory evacuation" to the link title now. He's not gonna let this go."
Good!! Mandatory evac give the mayor the power to commandeer those buses. Yet he let them sit there while herding the people into the Superdome.. with no way out!! A no brainer to have the buses parked at the dome in case things got bad.

Since he linked to the image, the "headline" is actually his editorializing. Good for him. Others too should ask the blatantly obvious questions, instead of fellating the race baiters and Kyoto groupies.

Seventy people per bus...that would have been a lot of people saved, if he had bothered to ask them to get on them and head north.

The non-evacuation of NOL should be the primary story because they knew the levees were built to withstand up to cat 3 max! They knew Katrina was potentially a cat 5, and yet the mayor and governor did not make evacuations mandatory. The governor did not allocate the necessary HSF for the security of a major city. They had no plan and they failed their people. This should be a wakeup call to every major city.

Come on, it's not hindsight. All of the predictions showed Katrina was going to hit with cat 4/5 force and that the levees were likely to fail. This was known to everybody two days before the storm hit. Those busses could and should have been deployed to the Superdome to transport the people after the storm passed.

Mayor Nagins statement was breathtaking ego, that's for sure. It certainly sounded like "I'd rather be dead than ride a school bus"
He should have let the people choose.

MSM never lets the facts get into the way of their reporting. We have Liberals and race pimps politicizing the effort and good ol' PMSNBC's Joe Scarborough jumping on the Bush bash. Unbelievable.

What I've been screaming about for at least 2 days now. The mayor KNEW New Orleans was gonna get a direct hit (even though it didn't) and he didn't get the buses to the appropriate areas. So now, it's a mess down there. Where is he? In Baton Rouge..screaming SOS, and blaming Bush. The blame is his.

We are talking about using the buses to evacuate a great number of people from the city BEFORE the storm hit! These idiots in Louisiana stuck their heads in the sand and had absolutely NO plan to evacuate or deal with the aftermath of a very predictible event.
And they have the nerve to blame the Feds for not doing more!

Here in Charlotte, we transport 100,000 children to school within 2 1/2 hours.
There is no excuse.
