President to speak at 9am ...
I'm not bashing Bush, either. But you are 100% right. Even with some advance warning, the rescue efforts appear inept and uninspiring. Local and state authorities have been thoroughly unimpressive since the weekend. The President appears to have been out to lunch. 4 years of Homeland Security don't look well invested.
On 9-11 there was a 100% failure at the Federal level, as Mark Steyn says. If the bad guys had the ability to have 100 planes in the air and attack between 8:45am and 9:15am, the impression I get is that you would have seen the descent of New Orleans play out all over the nation (though probably not the entire nation). After 4 years of preparedness, we clearly don't have much to show for it.
America is weak and unprepared. If I noticed, you can bet the bad guys noticed. It's very clear to me that we need to make severe adjustments: the USA can't handle a severe bodyblow. It just can't.
Yes I have made a donation.
Nothing is too low for the libs (media)... using a natural disaster to bash and blame our hard-working compassionate President, it's mind-boggling. There are many fans of left media on this thread.
How much is the military spending each day. That number doesn't mean much. The whole region that Katrina hit is devastated. BellSouth says its phone system is down. Trees are blocking highways. Underpasses are flooded.
Ohio - Is he drinking the Black Caucus Kool Aid or is it related to the relief operations? (No Fox access here)
The lack of logic and consistency of the bashers gets worse every day.....
I second that.
"Again, NO was FEMA's worst case scenario in their studies and it doesn't appear they were ready."
No they weren't ready for the state and local government to sit on their hands, forcing FEMA to do pretty much all the work. It's like FEMA is the quarterback and the blockers all ran away from the play - of course it's getting clobbered.
OK. Don't be a person of words, show us the receipt. I cannot see anything that you have done -- NO is still in flames and total disaster. Prove what you have done.
He needs a break, IMO.
I caught his session with the Coast Guard. He did an excellent job.
Wanna shake your head some more
Geraldo is now in NO and reporting
My condolences! And why doesn't Fox have a "Fox International"? They should.
The transcript of his remarks in Mobile should be up the FEMA and White House sites by later this afternoon...or rather tomorrow morning your time ;-) The WH site usually includes a Real Player clip.
"moaned about how stupid it was for Bush to be there, and it was nothing but a political photo-op for a few Republican govs."
Ironically, that's exactly what I told the "he should be at the convention hall" types would happen. Next he'll be hiding for not showing up at the convention hall and for landing at a strip in a NO suburb instead of right downtown.
You do realize that the security situation at the WTC and the security situation in NO are as different as night and day?
One New Orleans man, currently living in the 'Plaza End Zone' section of the Superdome as he awaits news of his missing family members, said, "I can survive for some time with little water, no food and highly unsanitary conditions...but if I don't hear some poetic words of comfort and stirring verbal imagery from the president pretty soon, I'm a goner."
Think this about sums up some of the "conservatives" on the forum? LOL
How does it feel to be unfairly criticized? Funny but true. People who dish it out are usually the ones who cannot take it.
It feels fine: it spoke more about you than it did about me.
As I said, anyone with clarity can see that the gov looks horrible in this situation. Anyone who can't see that, 'can't see.'
LOL! Ya gotta love Scrappleface..................at least some of the time. :)
I'm not trying to blame anyone for the storm. I've been throught dozens of false alarms. I live in a coastal city that has never, in recorded history, suffered a direct hit. Nevertheless, every time a storm gets close, people evacuate the beaches and board up their homes.
The problem with NOLA is it's unique vulnerability to complete destruction. Something known for decades. I'm disturbed at reports of hundreds of school busses and police cars left in areas likely to be flooded. I'm disturbed at the lack of preparations for shelters.
If plans had been made and failed, that's one thing, but I don't see any evidence that the storm was taken seriously.
The notion that they only had 24 hours notice is a lie.
