GW has failed miserably.

No he hasn't. He put some people in charge of disaster-relief who have no disaster experience. He should have known better, but nobody expected a disaster of this magnitude.

He can still recover if people stop dying, people are moved, people are fed and given water, and the shooting stops.

And put somebody in front of the camera who acts as if he knows what he's doing.

Aye, laddie. Witch hunt it is. Meanwhile people are dying, and we only now are getting a chance to quell the anarchists blocking the flow of aid. Sure MSM, Black Caucus, Jesse Jagoff, you guys keep complaining.

Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco, how was your shower this morning? Oh, and I'm sorry you probably only got donuts for breakfast, not hot eggs and bacon. It's gonna suck so bad to have to replace all of those NOLA school busses - too bad you couldn't have gotten them out of town befor the storm...

;(

That is totally not true. He is a man of action in every way. A man true to his word.

What would you have done? I'm serious.

Those that wanted the Prez on camaera have it now. he's being shown listening to the status reports and speaking. Amazing to me that people needed him on camera seen with these mundane details, but hope they are pleased now and shut up.

Congratulating each other for their collective magnificence in a closed room doesn't buy votes from the gullible.

I wish everybody would stop congratulating each other for the job they're doing. They're doing a terrible job so far and they need to recognize that.

"some actions" should have been some OPTIONS

President giving speech far more along the lines of that which his critics would have preferred this morning. He's more relaxed, more confident and being interrupted by applause. Says it's as if the entire Gulf Coast was obliterated by some king of weapon.

His saying the relief effort was unacceptable should have given you what you say you needed.

And as prior governor to Texas, I have no doubt that he is well-familiar with the type of plans that should be in effect, and at the ready, in the event of a hurricane disaster.....

Hi Deacon. Don't you know if a sparrow falls from the sky it's the President's fault? No matter, he doesn't have to run again.

I think this will be a golden opportunity for our Republican Revolution to turn Louisiana to our side, if politics must be discussed.

I know we aren't happy with the pubs, and I've been bashing them good lately, but we're still going to keep cleaning the floor with the communist a-rats, and we're going to kick a few rinos in the @ss too.

You guys on the left all want slick performances. You don't even begin to understand real character when you see it.

The President gave magnificent performances after 9/11. He has appeared less than surefooted this week. He lost his great speechwriter at the end of his first term, and his written speeches have shown it.

At least I think Bush is starting to get that there is such a perception now.

It didn't really start until yesterday anyway.

"I thought a road would be a good way to deliver supplies.
It depends on how many miles of that road are under water, doesn't it?"

True, under water or under gunfire.

The Eastern Standard Time includes Washington, New York, and Miami.

Right now, that's Eastern Daylight Time. Indianapolis is on Eastern Standard Time, one hour behind New York, Washington, and Miami.

Great remarks from the President. Nobody will ever mistake him for a great orator...just a great, caring, effective President. JMHO.

The mayor of NO is even more incompetent than the governor. He says he is having someone research his power to order an evacuation, even though it has been ordered in every other parish around. He is hiding behind legalisms. In dire emegencies, one doesn't consult lawyers. He worries about the ill not being given a hospital bed and the tourists having their hotels shut down. He hasn't figured out that fleets of buses should have been ordered into NO to pick folks out, and trains sent in for folks to get into cattle cars to move north. He wrings his hands knowing that NO is likely to be a death zone, and under water, with nothing alive except in third story buildings and above, assuming they survive the winds. A tragedy is in the making, a great tragedy, unless mother nature does something unexpected.

The above comments were posted by torie on 8/27/2005. The mayor of NO was actually having his staff research whether or not he had legal authority to order a mandatory evacuation. If the mayor doesn't even know the answer to that basic question one to two days before landfall of a major hurricane, you better believe no planning had been done to care for displaced citizens. I am at a loss for words as to how a major city on the Gulf Coast had ZERO emergency planning.
