President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I think that before we start sending the refugee's into farms to pick stringbeans and cotton, we should give them some time to sort their devastated and destitute lives out. These people have lost everything...their homes, their cars, their clothes, their paperwork, their photos, and their jobs. Their friends and family are scattered across America or dead. Their whole city is GONE. God help these people before you start sending everyone to some plantation somewhere.

People in over their heads this weekend:

White House Spokesman Scott McClellan

I think Scott has done a pretty poor job since day one, and it has had a negative impact on Bush. Regardless of whether it is due to Bush's loyalty or stuborness, you'd think that eventually Bush would have the sense to replace him. Too bad Ari isn't in the position any more.

I've been worried about fire all along. Wooden buildings, gasoline in the streets...

Oh no! Fire not good.

It's spreading rapidly and is for all intents and purposes out of control. The somewhat-"good" news is that it's blowing away from I-10 and the Superdome.

Shepard Smith is narrating the fire, and at the same time he's got his "Drama Queen" mode going...on and on about how nobody on the freeways has had any sustenance for three days -

Apparently he's not noticing that virtually everybody walking has a gallon jug of water in hand.

Shep needs to take a deep breath and maybe take a nap.
