President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Any idea of the number of bad actors? You know, shots fired (a daily / hourly happening even before the hurricane) we all think "OMIGOD!"
My point is, proportion and perspective. That being said, It seems that a massive and crushing response must be mad asap.
Interesting. What is the pathology that causes them to shoot at rescuers?
I mean seriously, what do they tell themselves, how do they rationalize that behavior to each other?
I don't care.
If they're looters, shoot them on sight.
If they're Luters (properly Luthiers) and they're playing en masse in NO, seize their instruments, break the things over their heads, THEN shoot them.
I need a drink after that.

10:10 A.M. - Michael Deroche, Terrebonne Parish E.O.C.: Utility companies working to restore power in the area, and the first people had their electricity turned on last night. Asks patience from those who fled who want to come back to town.
150 residents still in shelters in the parish. More than a thousand Orleans Parish refugees in Terrebonne, but they can’t take many more, unless the National Guard sends troops to provide security.
No reports of flooding.
“People have been very generous and helping. Our civic organizations are stepping up,” he said.
Deroche said public and private schools will open Tuesday.

People need to remember the looting in Baghdad post-victory, and what it led to (the crap we are still in over there) nearly two years later.
This is no time for political correctness. My concern is that PC knows no boundary; it is just as likely able to take root in a Republican administration as a Democrat, maybe more quickly with the Rats. No PC at this time. We have to exercise the option. Or this might spread to other US cities.
I haven't lived in Houston for 10 years, so I don't know how it is now --- but back then, the Houston cops had three war zone areas to deal with. The number of active thugs at the Astrodome is probably relatively small, percentage-wise, and it won't add much (again, percentage-wise) to the overall crime rate.
While they soon turn around and jack the NOLA refugees rates to 33% when they are unable to make their monthly payments from the tent cities.
I disagree. Bush is gonna be credited or blamed for the results, not what happens in between. Restore order, and literally shoot to kill. The gangs are deliberately trying to ruin daylight evacations. More stranded people will die of dehydration if they are not evacuated promptly.

The Mayor is saying that the situation is "not out of control" and that the courthouse is being closed because of "congestion" and its proximity to the place where the refugees are being housed (it is literally right next door).
Take that for what you will.
