It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....

Come on...you know that's not going to hold up as a reason to accuse others of wanting to see thousands dead. Some here know MFH and will defend the person they know. Other's are extrapolating what is fairly obvious from the wide-spread destrruction and the comments of officials and will defend their opinions in that regard...there are a number of reasons for people to defend the story other than they want to see thousands dead.
Such a statement, and the reasons you cite, are much more unlikely than the statements made by MHF's friend, particularly in light of what the mayor of New Orleans has said this afternoon.
Sorry...but I am not buying the line of reasoning you cite here at all...and that's okay. We are each entitled to our opinion.
Whether it is 2000, or 20,000, each one was a human being.
All I can do is say the Lord's prayer and have hope.
It would help if more of those in NO who spend their time observing and talking and reporting just shut up and started rescuing.
Life is a very short and precious thing.
May God have mercy on all of us, and especially on those in need in NO.
Yeah, it's pretty terrible. Tolls will probably be 10k+ I'm afraid.
Truly sad, scary and maddening. Those involved are not the "Americans" that I know. The ones I know are the ones who pull together in the face of tragedy.
I just shake my head....
And thank you again, MFH.
You mean the guy who is getting reports from state police, SAR crews, local government officials, and everyone else who knows anything? His word is about as good as anyone's at this point.
You're so sweet.
I try to be obedient to a higher power.
Thank you for your update. Grateful for people like your friend who are giving so much of themselves now. Prayers for him and all the others who are there doing what they can as well as to all those who have lost so much. It's awful - so sorry -- so sad.
Thanks RB.
Well put.
Our attitude is important as is our perspective.
For some, given their world views, it's merely a temporarily effective rationalization. But better than nothing--to them at the moment.
For others their perspective is a certainty born out of a tried and tested RELATIONSHIP with Almighty God who is longsuffering and kind to all and particularly to all who Love Him.
He did NOT make hell for man but for satan and his angels. However, God will not prevent man from choosing where to spend eternity. Otherwise, there could be NO SUCH THING as LOVE.
Based on what data, I wonder.
On the one hand, I'm exceedingly inclined to abide by your exhortation.
On the other hand, you are likely proselytizing as much as I am or more for your perspective, your world view etc.
Mine has at least as much right for whatever seems a fitting airing to me as yours does to you.
And, there's just the chance, that mine may result in someone having a light bulb go on in their being which will bring them life, peace and even joy and eternal life.
And what will yours likely bring that's likely to survive a few hours or weeks?
Agreed.
I will just repeat it one more time...

BTW, I'm making a relatively few number of posts compared to my typical approach of responding to everything that strikes my fancy.
And still you gritch.
So kind.
Maybe your sensitivities and hostile perspective needs more adjusting than my posting.
Yes. I rewound my videotape and here are the basics:
Wolf Blizer was interviewing Ivor Van Heerden of the LSU Hurricane Center. Wolf said that he heard there may be thousands who died.
Dr. Heerden said, "I understand that 80% of the people followed the order to evacuate. That means that there were 250,000 to 300,000 people who were left in New Orleans. According to our computer models, 1/3 of those have drowned."
If my figures are correct, that would mean that he estimates the dead in NO to number between 80,000 and 100,000.!!!! WOW!!! Can that be true???
