The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Those 2 women had no idea of that. They KNEW they were stealing and they KNEW they got caught. If they had known the store was up for grabs, why were they so sheepish about the whole thing? It just proves that offering up the store meant nothing to them... they were stealing anyway.

The press can handle only one story at a time. Nonethless, Mobile is not under ten feet of water and in danger of losing its existence.

Sorry, I disagree. Talking and doing are two different things. He's talking, when what those people need are someone doing something physically to get them where they need to go. If, you are in an immediate and dire life threatening need and all I do is stand there beside you and talk into a camera about your need, do you think you'd appreciate what I'm doing, or would you be crowding up to me saying, hey Shep, when you jump in your car/heli/whatever to bug out, I'm coming with you? Shep's just a pretty face feeding us drama.

I would think most NOLA police officers are going to be unemployed shortly, for an indefinite period.

I thought it would take some time -- 1,000 miles confirms that. Feds are playing by the rules and moron Governor is a dollar short on asking for help.

From what I can see, the devastation is incomprehensible. I was there in October last year. Hardly anything left.

Then why isn't FEMA and the administration pounding her to make the request? They've got plenty of leverage, simply the threat that if she refuses they'll call a news conference to announce that the military is ready to be moved in but the gov hasn't responded to their pleading to go in ASAP. If the city and state are still failing abysmally, the administration has the responsibility to step in to prevent rapid escalation of the tragedy.

Sorry, I am a big fan of the President, but he's allowed the situation to unfold where it will appear to many that he is too slow and reactionary, rather than proactive. May not be true, but perception is stronger than reality in situations like this.
