The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I read on another thread that the jails had been open. Do you, or anyone else have feedback on whether some of the lawlessness -- violent looting, shooting, home invasions -- are the product of the convicts, or just the behavior of the now unrestrained residents?
Shep is doing a good job. I want to know WHERE IS Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? The people they claim to care the most about are suffering the worst!
Ironic, because in one of the first threads on the hurricane someone said that the city had 10,000 body bags.
Saw on cnn that a nurse at one of the hospitals went outside for a minute to get a breath of fresh air, and she was held up!
Al Sharpton still has heartburn from the Cindy Sheehan bar-b-que in Crawford.

I don't know what those lawless goons are thinking. They interviewed a looter on WDSU asking him if he felt good about what he was doing. The guy said yea, it feels good, wouldn't you feel good? And the reporter said, but it's just wrong. So the looter says, if it was wrong, the cops would be here blocking us.
No conscience whatsoever. Some human beings are truely idiotic.
It will take 12 hours to get from New Orleans to Houston?
Only high res from yesterday and before... waiting on more. There are major changes to the landscape around the lake, the bays to the east, SE LA,etc. I think LA maps will need to be redrawn in the future.
