The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

They need to send in the NAVY w/SHIPS! PRONTO!

LOL Great idea, but how "pronto" can the Navy get ships there & where would they put people other than the crew.

We need an old ocean liner, or cruise ship. Maybe the one that used to be at Gitmo.

Why do you think the river levies are flooding too?

Reports say they do not know where all the breeches are. The city is covered in water and some of us fear that there may be a breech along the river. In fact, they might not be able to tell if there were a breech there. There's just an awful lot of water and may not only be from the lake.

Right...

I would think most people watching that guy Cafferty would see right through such a cheap shot.

Like there's going to be a huge difference if he's at his Oval Office desk?

Jimmy Carter never left his desk when the Mullahs in Iran took our people. A lot of good that did him (and them).

CSPAN is rebroadcasting both the President's speech where he will return tomorrow, and Blanco talking about impassible interstates, a lot of rooftops, the TV coverage, the breaching of two drainage levees causing the problem. She noted the Dome population is growing with the rescued, and there is insufficient stuff there, so they are working with FEMA to plan (ha!) how to get people out of the untenable situation. Landrieu (?) said St. Bernard, parts of Tammany, etc had more water than she had ever seen, in NO East people on rooftops, etc. She asked those already evacuated to wait for search and rescue to get done first, as every boat is being used to evacuate people.

She said the tsunami area is equivalent to the Indonesian tsunami area, with places that have gone and highways that have vanished, and thousands may not have food, water or shelter.

Another speaker said this is THE most destructive and tragic event in LA.

I was responding to a comment asking why FEMA wasn't working on getting ships into the NO area. My response was simply to point out that we don't really know what FEMA is working on or not, so it's not really worth wondering why they're "not working" on anything in particular.

"An economist was on FOXNEWS earlier who said that states have erected such regulatory and environmental barriers that there's no incentive for oil companies to build refineries."

Exactly. Therein lies the problem. An even WORSE problem - short term - is that even if all the stupid environazi regulations were waived today and ground broken tomorrow for new refineries, it will 3 to 5 years to get them online if fastracked. No quick fixes there.

We STILL need new refineries.

But they won't give us the instant gratification we crave.

Back to playing catch up....

taking snipes at President Bush?

"Whare is the president?"

"Is he still in Crawford?"

The POS that made those cracks?

I heard the trashing that Cafferty did.

Back to Fox and MSNBC for a while.

Here is my email to Wolf and Jack:

CNN
Wolf Blitzer/Jack Cafferty

What's up with the sour comments about President Bush. Looks like to me that the Democrats and their administrations over the past 60 years could have done something to alleviate the problems New Orleans is having after Katrina.

Instead their crooked local governments sat on their dead butts and did nothing. I believe that President Bush and Mike Brown were the ones who instigated a disaster plan for New Orleans, you might want to check that out.

I have a love hate relationship with CNN and Cafferty's comments don't help how I view CNN. What the hell more does Cafferty expect Bush to do that he has not already done.

Hey Jack, how about getting hold of yourself a stop the blame game. I'm sure before this is over there will be plenty, even for over emotional know-it-all reporters such as yourself.

Liberals, especially biased reporters looking for any crack in the Bush armor go beyond the call of the DNC duty.

By sunset tomorrow, IMHO, if possible, the President should tour the area (New Orleans, Biloxi, Gulfport, etc) by air at least if possible, a quick flyover and around, then land upstate somewhere state and offer comments and support.

I remember the President went to NYC only 2-3 days after the attacks. I think this is what is needed now. I am sure the White House is thinking about it, but do not want to pressure the system there as it is due to aerial safety concerns (they'd have to declare it no-fly during the President's air tour).

This is not only the right thing to do and we would have him do it for those reasons alone, you can be sure the libs and socialists' lips will drip with sarcasm in about 24 hours if he DOESN'T do it.

As a resident of the Gulf Coast, I care deeply about what has happened. I am also interested in Iraq, Roberts nomination, etc. Along with all my neighbors we are housing and feeding a large family who evacuated here from New Orleans.

We have had buckets here just east of indianapolis. And I mean buckets...the sump started up with regular pumping several hours ago and it is going to be hefting water all night..that is for sure.

It has been dark...so windy leaves are all over the ground...and if this is Katrina after days onland...and a thousand miles from the gulf...MY GOSH...WHAT WAS THIS STORM LIKE UP CLOSE AT A CAT 4?
