The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

He's probably used to up-river levee breaches where water would go someplace eles to relieve pressure. It's a sound concept that seems to be blown up (no pun intended) by location and volume of water..

She is clueless and has been even before the hurricane struck. Anyone that votes for her deserves what they get in the future.

Blanco wants everyone evacuated out of the dome in the next two days.

Exactly Right!! This is one thing the Clinton Admin has all over this one, They realized the power of perception.

Could you imagine the difference if Rudy G was down their leading the effort ?

I understand everything you are saying. But the people watching at home aren't getting that message.

FEMA has spokes-people.... they need to be more visible!!!

One of our Louisiana FReepers thought of that too. Here's a glitch - most of the cruise ships are under foreign national registry.

Horrible news -- was on last night when the word came in. Believe the same type of news will come out of southern LA when this is all over.

The role of Rudy G is unfortunately being filled by Ms. Blanco.

They'll get things sorted out.

Do you have a source for the Astro Dome story? I'm not challenging you on it, but if it happens I may have to work there.

MSNBC has the story.

I hope they can get the rats (no dem prefix but real rats) out of the dome before they start transporting people there. be a good place to pitch some big tents so those poor folks could have some privacy.

Just heard they are now getting Command Centers set up. Someone needs to muzzle the Governor and her "I Don't Know" statements.

One of our Louisiana FReepers thought of that too. Here's a glitch - most of the cruise ships are under foreign national registry.

Another glitch is that it's far more difficult to maintain logistics to a cruise ship than to a tent city, and it's also logistical easier to get people to the tent city. Not to mention a hell of a lot cheaper -- which is a big consideration here.

"Get this: they are going to move them from the Superdome to (ta da) The Houston Astrodome!!! There's a plan, for you!

I am not making this up. I will go get the link to prove that this is what they are going to do."

I just heard them on FoxNews say that they were planning to move 25,000 people from the Superdome to the Astrodome in TX.
