The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

The two women are rejects. The majority of our police officers would not behave that way and most of them are not only doing their job, but going over and above what would normally be demanded of them. Heaven only knows what they are dealing with right now.

I think this guy is actually sicko, perverted, IMHO after hearing but a few lines from him. There is something wrong about him.

Los Angeles and New York love NO, and most of the the fortunate from both have been there many times. We love this city. I can't imagine that is the reason. If it were just the Mississippi coast, but I could imagine the lack of interest, sort of. A national treasure has been lost. It may come back, but if it does, it won't be the same, not ever. I wonder if the low lying areas will ever be rebuilt. It might be foolish to do so. The place might be turned into a paradise island kind of place, hugging the high ground. Even worse will be Jefferson County. Meanwhile the whole place is sinking about a half foot every twenty years or so due to the lack of natural silting that built up the place over the centuries along the river banks. It is on borrowed time.
Uh, what? Just curious, what is he supposed to do? I don't like/dislike him particularly, but NO as a city does not have the helicopters, ships, resources to plug the levee breaks. The Army Corp of Engineers built and maintain them, in the firstplace. Your comment just seems bizarre and odd to me.
It's a bit harder to do that in an urban area where there is a concrete divider between the lanes instead of a grass median with perhaps a wire or steel guardrail. I doubt that there was a pre-cut section available in the areas where the camera were. Also, it takes time to set up a barrier (more for a semi-permanent one; less for barrels, but the barrels would need to be picked up before the wind picked up).

Yes, fresh fuel is a good thing. But old crystalizing fuel is worse than useless even in perfect times. I understand that fuel stabilizing agents can stretch this out... really I do.
But it still remains that there is a balance maintained between the advantage of refreshing fuel stores at some reasonable frequency and trying to store as much fuel as possible for as long as possible.
The larger the fuel store, the greater the magnitude of the storage management problem, and of course, the greater the cost of management.
Without electricity, there is little to see there at night.
I would not be the least bit surprised if we see a near media
blackout very soon.

I recall seeing a view of levee's breaking from the flood of the century back in the 90's. Seems like that would be the "money shot" 5-10 years later. I don't want to see bodies and looters, I want to see what is causing this disaster.... after the disaster.
Answer phones and help screen volunteers for the boat rescues.
The bad thing is, some people don't like New Orleans. In fact, many seem to HATE it. I guess you either love it or you hate it. That's bad news, because the city and the state are so horribly poor to begin with, they are going to need every resource they can get. Will people rally around New Orleans? I don't see it. I think many people who have never been there are just watching this with curiosity, or saying "they shouldn't have lived there to begin with." I hope I'm wrong.
