The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I think when they "rebuild" New Orleans... it should be on a different spot. I think the Gulf has reclaimed this land.

Interesting points, but the engineer in me says this was not random. In another post around #2989 I think I may have explained how it works.

You must mean Raymond Arroyo. He evacuated early with his wife, two sons, and 12 day old baby. They went to Birmingham, home of EWTN.
I'm glad Ray and his family are safe.

Liberals are screaming about how Bush isnt doing anything. I can just hear the screams if he were to go into any state before a cane was about to hit and take over, move in the NG, start ordering the gov and the mayors around. Libs are just demented. Theres no rationalizing with them at all.

When we lived in So. Cal we kept a backpack with water, food, radio, money, in each car as well as a pair of running shoes.

That is fine. Now just picture all of this under fifteen feet of water.

Humor Break. I think these two guys have the best plan:

U S Army EOD: If we could only drop Micheal Moore and Ted Kennedy in the levee breech we could save the city. Maybe those two could finally be of some use.

steveegg: Add Nadler and you've got a deal :-)

I know -- someone has some explaining to do about buses not taking people out of New Orleans all day long and why we kept seeing pictures of the interstate coming into NO with no cars -- why not open at least one of those lanes as well.

I can't see the photo you're talking about. Nor can I post the one I have.

"It's clear they don't have a clue and haven't talked about The Plan we keep hearing about."

They are utterly overwhelmed by inaction. You can see it in their faces whenever they speak.

By contrast, the Mayor of NYC led by example.

The devestation is quickly becomming biblical in scale. It's time to Federalize this operation immediately.

OK. but they have to communicate that to people. right now, the public statements being made by Blanco/Nagin are ADDING to the fear. they tell them "evacuate the city". How? they tell them levees are failing, everything is going to hell. read the posts back a few pages summarizing their statements on the talk shows. you can't do that during an event like this.
