The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I don't have a link handy, and I don't quite remember where I saw it, but Katrina apparently took in a bit of dry air from the Midwest just before landfall, which weakened it and also pushed it just east of NO.
I guess that failure to make the appropriate speech is an impeachable offense. ;)
Well-stated reality bump
Amen to this.
What are you talking about...he has given two speeches in 2 days...and on Sunday he gave a speech at the ranch...
All three times he referenced the hurricane and the victims...
NOW, what in the heck is he gonna say that is gonna make every thing alright for those poor people, that he hasn't already said...
NOW, if you haven't seen his speeches, complain to the MSM, they are the ones not showing them.
He sure did tell people to evacuate and not to go to the dome but to the second floor of their homes if they are over nine feet tall. Still shaking head!
It's never 'just you', sweetie!
"The breach was 200ft long and looked like about 100yds from where the canal meets Lake P."
Right so its alot easier to plug the canal at the lake - it appears to be about 75' wide.
"Has anybody asked Mary exactly what she had done to help and/or prevent this situation?"
The only thing she can do now is step-down.
What annoyed me on the 6:30 PM ABC/CBS/NBC newscast was the repeated mentions of how tough it was on the poor. It was like the anchors were looking to make excuses for the looters. What was funny was the comments from older New Orleans residents -- unlike the press, they were angry with the looters and said we don't have time for such foolishness.
Suggest you read the Congressional report on the Titanic and the official interviews.
I hope that report is more factual than the Warren Commision, 911 or other government reports WACO OKC TWA etc....(able danger)
That BI^& Governor blaming Army Corps Of Engineers for not acting fast enough.
Why these women are even appearing on Larry King shows at this time is unimaginable.
They should be at command centers for crying out loud.
100,000 were supposedly left in the city before the strike. 10-12000 in the dome during the hit, and roughly 1200 rescued by copter. I don't like the numbers. Would that mean about 75,000 were in the French Quarter? Do we know where the original 100,000 came from?
Hell yes! So it costs them a bit of money, it is going to cost them far more in bad PR, as there are going to be congressional hearings (mark my word) and this will be brought up and harped on (with good reason.)
Between that Governor and that Mayor....it will be a miracle if anything gets fixed in a hurry in Louisiana, and especially NO.
I agree; think Escape from New York.
If I understood her correctly, as per her spiel, she's been "trying for years" to get people to recognize "the danger." I didn't hear her mention it tonight (because I couldn't stop my fingers from switching the channel) but she has been complaining, regards this tragedy, about "the wetlands" and the fact that "our National Guard" is in Iraq. IMHO... a totally worthless fraud of an elected official.
We've gone from "The Buck Stops Here" to "The Buck Never Got Here."
They are safe and snug and probably nowhere near NO.
