The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

CNN has been great, as much as I hate to admit it. Carville was just on and did not blame the President once. Then, a commercial with the Ditch Bitch, so I turned them off for a bit.

We are in the process of building one here in Arizona (Yuma) on the Gulf of California. Need a few more on this side of the country.

Well maybe, but the Mississippi appears to be pouring through a failed lock, and into the navigation channel, and then right into the 9th ward. Or, maybe the lock is in place, and the filled bowl of the 9th ward broke the levee and is flowing into the navigation channel, which is then filling up and flowing down to the lake. Can anyone figure which way the water is going? It is rough in the lock, so maybe the second scenario is the correct one, in which case it is good that the levee failed.

Resident of NOLA for 30+ years here(in Texas since 1989):

We have 3 families with us now from Covington and Slidell. This is a challenge. I grew up in River Ridge, went to Tulane(BSEE), etc. A civil engineer of 30 years in NOLA evac'd Thursday of last week after thinking of the scenario that is now unfolding.

Shep spoke too soon.

I agree 100% with PhiKapMom about the current "guv".

I have a VERY strong feeling that the Corps found a problem that may send the Mississippi on a detour....through New Orleans. Here's a link to a graphic if you want an idea of what that will mean. It makes me sick. It also makes me want to cry(and that ain't easy).

Neil Cavuto is addressing the issue of help for us.

"Where is the global relief for us"

"The silence is defeaning"

"The water in NO isn't the only thing that stinks"

"I just listened to that news conference by the LA Governor and it is beyond my comprehension that they really didn't, and seemingly still don't have a plan for this scenario."

They do have a plan, on several levels, that is being implemented in the field without the Governor's input. Mostly, their communications are not working and they are on their own until comms come back on-line.

That is part of the well developed plan.

This is a really big disaster and it will take several days to find out just how bad it is. The field personnel are acting under their own direction and are doing so professionally and efficiently.

So... please back off the criticism and send help.

No. That is unmistakably the Industrial Canal which links the lake to the river, with a lock seen at the bottom of that picture.

Thanks for the correction, Aaron. In truth, I don't know what in the H**l I'm talking about - I'm in Ohio, afterall. :)

However, those LSU professors said the Mississippi River levees were intact and holding - as of 2:00pm, anyway.

Had to turn it off. That face. That voice

Amamzing that the lefties at CNN would run such a blatant and false political ad at this time of disaster.

I just bought gas in Norman, OK, for $2.62 while stations around were asking slightly more. Our gasoline comes from the Purcell area refinery and our two Senators went to Court to keep us from having reformulated gasoline.

Time to start drilling off the coast of FL and CA along with ANWR and tell the wackos to get lost. The wells I have seen around Norman are pumping continually right now.

Man-o-man....
Things are gonna really get fetid pretty soon.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the fatalities post storm dwarf those caused by the storm itself.

God Help NOLA.
