The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

OK, I keep seeing this question over and over, even hear the media asking something similiar. I am thinking we have some Freepers that could explain it, but none have taken a shot at it. Now, I know if I am
wrong y'all will correct me, but with all the rain that was dropped by the hurricane plus the tidal surge etc. are we seeing (or not seeing as in lack a observation of the natural world)storm water flowing out of
the watershed to the lowest points? Is that why the water in lake P is not really going down, but rising slightly and continueing to flow through the breaches in the levees. Basic Watershed Science?"
You are one sharp mind. My money says you've nailed it.
How, exactly, do you propose that they tow a multiton hull stuck fast in a mud flat with runabouts???
Geez, they have problems doing that with purpose-built tugs with thousands of horsepower.

Potentially several million people homeless for months, business completely shut down. One of the busiest ports out of commission, yup I'd say it's pretty huge.
Law and Order is beginning to breakdown now...
I've heard it said for YEARS that even in America, we are NEVER more than 48 hours away from anarchy....
I beginning to think they were right...
I'm not sure what percentage of them lived in the New Orleans area. I think the biggest concentration of them live in the Houston or Lafayette area, but I don't know that for a fact.
There are rumors of 3.00/Gal prices in North Georgia and a shortage is on the way.
Don't know if it is true, but filled up both the cars tonight anyway. One Honda, 31.00 and one Explorer, 41.00. When I bought the Explorer 5 years ago, it cost 17.00 to fill up. That is when we would still have a gas war every now and again and prices were .88 to .99.
Think I am going to be sick. This is courtesy of the tree huggers. Be sure to let them know how grateful you are.....not.
Am I looking at this too pessimistically?
I fear you may have unknowingly sugar-coated it.
The Mississippi is expecte to rise only 1' in nexty 5 days - should be no prblem but they need to plug the lake
" I hope Bush addresses the nation live soon like he did on 9/11. I think the circumstances call for it today '
I agree. Everyone I spoke to today said the same thing.
Rudy was also addressing the people of NYC at about 5pm on 9/11, if memory serves.
And not welling up in tears, like the LA governor. Jeez.
The WH since the election, has been completely off balance, PR wise and communications wise, IMHO.
They've become reactive instead of pro active.
We all know that no matter which course the President takes-directing from behind the scenes or addressing and reassuring the nation , the media and the Dems will pounce on him.
Broad St. and Tulane, I think...
Plus, we're in the middle of a war -- our military choppers are deployed elsewhere. Nor do we have an aircraft carrier deployed in the Gulf. It'll take time to get one from Jacksonville or Norfolk. Logistics take time -- it still took us several days to get a carrier to Sumatra (and there we had one already sailing nearby in the Pacific).
So which do you think the guy who lost his wife was into, Harry Potter, or Voodoo?
Doesn't the Bible say that it rains on the just and the unjust alike?

Where exactly is that pic from?
Already well over $3.00/gal out here in California...
Who knows -- agree with another Freeper -- don't think we are getting the whole story about this. They are shutting down the pump on the east bank as it will soon be under water.
