The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

They are telling people to stay on Highway 90 to get out of the city. This is scarey.

The seal was stuck in a puddle well inland, too heavy to drag to the sea, and the dragging it over the rubble would have probably injured it severely.

Just da**. One's heart goes out for the people and all that they are going through. May God really really intervene in a big way. But I really hoped that the poor seal would make it. Kind of a symbol really.

It's true. I posted it earlier but I think people may have missed the significance of it.

6:41 P.M. - Efforts to stop the levee break at the 17th Street Canal have ended unsuccessfully and the water is expected to soon overwhelm the pumps in that area, allowing water to pour into the east bank of Metairie and Orleans to an expected height of 12-15 feet. From Tom Planchet's page on WWLTV, placed in bold for emphasis, also in block capitals on the WWLTV homepage.

Had to be done. Humans need food and water first. Kind of harsh, yet there will be more reality in the coming days. PETA be damned.

It is a shame ..... we wouldn't have been able to settle Texas without it.

They have a pig named Mr Parker and I don't know how he is. My brother in law swears he is a genius and takes me out to his pen to tell me stories of the genius of Mr Parker. But he is very very fat and dull looking to me. They got him to eat and my sister made a pet out of him. She does that will all the animals. And my bro in law is a beef cattleman,,he raises them for beef so you can imagine how hard it is for my sister who falls in love with all the baby cows. They recently sold most of their herd and I think they kept the bulls for stud or something. We don't like the bulls anyway so I don't care if they were in the storm or not. They have two draught horses, big old ones, and I don't know about them but they couldn't go in the house for sure, they are pretty tall.

Police shot the seal to put it out of its misery.

There's a Jerry Clower joke in there somewhere--

About the man who claimed he was OK at the scene of a car wreck with a livestock truck, but later sued the insurance company because he had broken his leg...

The lawyer asks him why he said one thing at the wreck, and why he was changing his story later.

The man replies:

"...that trooper looked over and saw that cow a-bellowin' and squallerin' , he looked over at me and said 'What's wrong with that cow?' and I said 'It's got a broke leg' and BLAM! he shoots her right between the eyes, grave-yard dead. With that gun a-smokin' he turns to me, and asks, 'What's wrong with you, sir?' and I says, 'NOT A THING IN THE WORLD!!'"

No cheers, due to Katrina. Prayers for all!
