Hurricane Katrina made landfall today at 6:10AM CDT, and she continues to drive northward into Mississippi and Alabama. Several local radar sites are down. Tornado and flash flood watches and warnings are widespread.
President Bush has declared major disaster areas, clearing the way for federal aid.

We aren't coddling anymore. Period.
Didn't learn about Parishes until much later. Maybe it's not 'ignorance,' but a regional difference you're dealing with.
Don't be too hard on us Yankees. We're teachable. ;)
Thanks. That's a fairly accurate image...:-)
Uh... was that to me?

I can't follow the threads. What happened with the stealing lady?
I am sorry if it just means I lost the ability to backtrack.
But if you say she is trying to take advantage of us, I am with you 100%
These pictures on msnbc were really powerful. Especially the one of the couple and baby caught in the flood: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9107338
I'm not even going back there.
I love your tagline!!! That is hilarious! I do that all the time, too. I just quit reading other sites. Not as interesting! LOL!
I pray for Haley Barbour, too. Bless his heart.
I like Haley. [Love to hear him talk.]

"Why did CNN fire him??? They did a routine physical and learned that he has a brain."
Former fellow Georgian (God, I miss Georgia!)
Thanks. I can't tell you how many times I've done it.
Fox has done a poor job of coverage. can't they get a chopper up like CNN has done and is showing right now.
CNN needs to give some context to this video - what/where exactly are they showing?

One thing learned (of many) during Hurricane Andrew - was to rotate the relief crews out after 1-2 weeks. I witnessed a Red Cross admin completely decompensate while I was there. It was really sad.
Hi all,
Longtime lurker, but this tragedy has drawn me out of the shadows.
Anyone heard anything from the Gretna/Terry Parkway area of the city? In-laws live there(evacuated). I doubt anyone has much info, but I figure it's worth a shot. Thanks.
What? What'd I do?
I think I'm being mistaken for somebody else..

"Harrison County EMA spokesman Jim Pollard said 30 of the deaths were in a single Biloxi apartment complex where the tenants were drowned or crushed by debris.
Well one thing the reporter in Gulfport said was that many of those homes closest to the ocean were pricy, so I would guess most of those owners evacuated(probably some of those were 2nd homes also.) An update from our Dallas CBS local news is that most of the deaths were in a single apartment complex in Biloxi.
