Not sure how bad it is - signal comes and goes,

But WLW radio is up and running and taking calls, and is a resource for Freepers who need specific information

Reminds me of a personal "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" story. Sis picked me up at the airport toward evening in a ferocious storm and up an over the foggy mountain we did go. Fog lights on the road and the weather is so bad we can barely make them out. I'm nervously yapping at sis "why don't we just pull over." She said, because the guy in back of us thinks we know where we are going, and he'll follow us off the road and CREAM us!

But somehow I detect some jealousy of the RC by some in the SA here.

Your detector is not working. I have no connection with the Salvation Army other than respect and donations (given--not received.) History has taught us to feel as we do.

I see nothing in the Red Cross about which to be jealous--is there something I've missed?

Courtney Jackson rocks! Makes you feel good about people to run across someone like that . . . polite, humble, looking out for grandma, and grateful to be alive!

Stealing diapers because they were not being watched...and she thought she could get away with it!"

Exactly.

There was plenty of time to stock up on basic necessities prior to the hurricane.

For all we know, she was going to sell the diapers.

She only got caught w/diapers. She may have stolen other items but didn't get caught w/those.

In response to a formal request made through the California Governor's
Office of Emergency Services, the Los Angeles Fire Department is
mobilizing a cadre of specially-trained Firefighters to assist Gulf
Coast residents afflicted by Hurricane Katrina.

These fourteen specially-trained Los Angeles Firefighters, four LAFD
vehicles, inflatable boats, technical equipment and supplies will arrive at a yet-to-be specified locale in the Gulf Coast region via military air transport.

The Los Angeles Fire Department team will mesh closely with local,
regional, State and Federal resources in responding to acute life safety needs created by storm activity.

Along with skill and experience, these specially-trained Los Angeles
Firefighters, all certified in multiple forms of water rescue, will
bring compassion and support to the many who have been affected by this monumental storm.

The LAFD water rescue team, a component of our Urban Search and Rescue
Task Force, is designed to be remain self-sufficient and highly mobile.

The period of deployment is expected to be no less than three days.

Pursuant of established protocol, public and media information
regarding the actions of these LAFD personnel during deployment will be provided by local, regional, State and Federal emergency management
officials in the effected area.

We wish to reassure Los Angeles residents that the City of Los Angeles
remains fully protected by the use of additional staff and reserve
apparatus to cover foreseeable local needs.

First 50 confirmed fatalities for this 2nd landfall of Katrina - I was afraid they'd be coming in batches like that - hope there's not too many more . . .

I learned that when I was twelve years old. I turned 55 on Saturday.

I'm 53. I guess I'm just stupid.

I hope that you'll be so gracious as to excuse my lack and treat me graciously as would be required of a superior being.

May God have mercy on their souls. This is going to be a horrific death toll.
