Bastardi was saying that even a strike 30 miles east of NO, would push the lake over the levee. of course, in retrospect, now that we know which facts occurred - we can make excuses for these models and forecasts. hey, don't get me wrong, I am glad it went down this way. but it doesn't mean there should be no review of the pre-hurricane events.

Harvey/Gretna areas (I believe directly Southeast of the Superdome and Canal St.) are flooding due to pump failure(~5 feet).

Harvey and Gretna are on the south side of the River from New Orleans.

Straight line winds are the absolute WORST, IMO.

We had them one time at 80 MPH; it was horrific!

TWC reporting from Covington now. Some mild - moderate structural damage. Moderate flooding along the shoreline.

Mike Keller, a resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, stands in the rain while mooning Hurricane Katrina just after dawn

Something tells me Mike Keller spent the night at a hurricane party.

"Maybe you would let someone die rather than "steal" medicine for them during an emergency, but I would not. "

Especially since it isn't necessary to "steal" the medicine at all. Leave an IOU. Pay for the stupid medicine later when the pharmacist has his business up and running again.

I am frustrated too..the news needs to be more mobile..and use more resources...surely they have affiliates in these other areas..I guess all communications are down..only thing I can think of is Ham radio operators who can use battery power and get the word out..something to learn for the media for next time..

Onyx just called me and wanted me to tell you all that she's ok, but she's NEVER in her life seen anything like this storm.

My goodness. I wondered, when she checked in on the "Check-in" thread if maybe she wasn't posting prematurely, as I didn't think there'd been time for the storm to move that far North.

Thank you Hildy. I have a dinner meeting this evening and must hit the road about 5:00 in order to be there on time. I'll check in when I get home around 9:00. Thanks again.

Insurance companies don't cover flood. That's FEMA (or whatever).

Something tells me Mike Keller is currently in the emergency room and even the gay guys are wincing in sympathetic pain...
