Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

Hurricane Hugo wiped out my sewer. A fallen tree's branch pierced the pipe and blocked it. Took a few days to notice. Sure surprised my neighbors, as my toilet was backing up into their apartment.

It's always good to have a back up to your emergency plans and supplies. Natural gas lines can be wiped out by the same type of event that got my sewer. We only had a few areas that had this but it still can happen.

Thanks for the confirmation. 50 sounded a bit high.

I know there are a lot of websites on New Orleans and LA, but I hope people are collecting and saving as many "before" pics as possible. My dearest friend, who died last year, was born in Orleans Parish and grew up in Jeff Parish. He was a fabulous story teller. I remember him talking about learning how to dance for the balls and performing before the King. He wanted to take me down and give me the royal tour from his childhood, but he got too sick. The best he could muster was beignets and cafe du monde at Underground Atlanta. Plus, he taught me how to make a real mean red beans and rice :)

Thanks for the link and info. This storm appears to carry high wind strength out from the eye thus making for a long duration of wind over one area and a wider area.

They're now talking about the probability of 1,000,000 refugees in the aftermath of this storm. This could be the end of NO. You sure wouldn't get me to rebuild in that swamp.

If anyone has contacts at Fox, can you ask them to please get some new video besides the one with the shaking dog and the guy putting up plywood bending over to showcase his buttcrack?

And they added, for possibly months to come.

That is probably why he knows N.O.,he was practically next door. I think Fox puts Shep on the big stories because he is young, seasoned, cocky and thinks on his feet. I remember they got him out of bed to come in for big stories During the initial huge stories of the Iraqi war,and the Shuttle disaster.

Not going to do him much good....the coliseum sits right across Hwy 90 from the beach. All he did was cross the street
