LIVE Report From Crawford (3,000 folks now and STILL COMING!)
Basil in Crawford | 8-27-05 | TxBubba

Posted on 08/27/2005 10:02:40 AM PDT by TXBubba

Just talked to Basil on site in Crawford, Texas. Currently there are about 100 folks there helping to set up. They have not received word about the caravan arrival in Waco yet. JimRob is riding with the caravan. She thinks it might get to Crawford around 1:00 p.m.

Basil says the stage is set up, the sound system is excellent and they have hung the most beautiful banners overnighted by W04Man on the stage. A big thanks for the banners, they are much appreciated!

Someone arrived early and hung yellow ribbons everywhere.

They have an American flag that is about 50 feet by 40 feet. Children of military personnel serving in the Middle East have written notes to their parents on the stripes of this flag. A very touching thing to behold.

The HOT Chapter booth is being unloaded right now. The will sell buttons made by Angelwood to help off set costs.

Someone rented the Community Center for our use so there is access to AC. However, they also have 10 tents set up. And there is a Moonwalk for the kiddos.

To top everything else there is BBQ on the grill! Basil is the official taster and says it is great!

That is all the news I have at the moment. It is hard to get a cell phone connection to Crawford but when I hear more I will try to update everyone.

functions similar to what it does on a Windoze box

But why would you want to do anything like a Windoze box?

Actually a placemarker!

These pictures being in England are the nearest I can get to this and they are much appreciated

This is great, isn't it? :) I may as well be in England too, as far as I am away from Crawford.

How can these moms who still support George Bush and his insane war in Iraq want more innocent blood shed just because their sons or daughters have been killed? I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how any mother could want another mother to feel the pain we feel. I am starting to lose a little compassion for them. I know they have been as brainwashed as the rest of America, but they know the pain and heartache and they should not wish it on another. However, I still feel their pain so acutely and pray for these “continue the murder and mayhem” moms to see the light.

Cindy's words about the mothers that have lost children, specifically real Gold Star moms! Those upset at FOX? Send this to FOX and see if THIS will get their attention.

It all started to go downhill at Fox News when O'Reilly got busted for sexual harrassment and Rupert Murdoch ditched his wife for his 21 year old secretary and fathered a child with her. Then they hired a Clintonite as the #2 to Roger Ailes. I get all my news from FR anyway, but it's sad to see what's happened to Fox News.

You're certainly welcome! Since I couldn't make it there today it sure helped to be a part of the action from a distance!

Having lived in the area for 25+ years, and lost it all in Andrew, Homestead will never be the same, IMO.

Now, 13 years afterward, it's probably on the road to what could be construed as progress and, arguably maybe better, but it will never be the same... it's completely different.

30% of the population never came back after Andrew, and the Latin, Haitiian, and Central American ethnic groups and poured in, making the downtown area too risky for shops and shoppers. The demographics shifted dramatically afterward.

Farmers didn't hang on, and ultimately sold that fertile land, with all the great produce that was supplied to the country in the winter .. and to us in the U-Pick fields ... to developers.

I understand real estate and business is booming, on and east of the US#1 ..I'll bet they flooded badly in the Katrina deluge .. they always flooded out there. I don't know how the heart of downtown Krome Ave. is doing, but I suspect it probably won't compete with the shopping centers and outlets on the highway.

It was a small-town friendly, easy, country/suburb blend, a botanically lush place, and a wonderful place to raise kids in the 70's and 80's. Andrew decimated tons of 60-80' trees and acres of groves that were integral to that ambiance. I know ... things change, and we'll never know what it may have exactly evolved to in these 13 years, but Homestead will never be the same as it was before the life-altering and traumatic wound it suffered in 1992.

The only good thing about the crappy coverage of the anti-Cindy protest is getting is that Cindy isn't getting her usual fawning quota although Ed Lavandera of CNN in On The Story talked as if she was the only one with supporters. Other than that though, she's not getting the amount of coverage she got yesterday for instance but it might be that the storm is shoving her off. No they haven't been 'fair and balanced'. I don't think so anyway!
