Gay Teacher Question for Freepers (Vanity)
None | 8/17/05 | Dr._Joseph_Warren

Posted on 08/17/2005 7:58:48 AM PDT by Dr._Joseph_Warren

Question:

Ignoring all legal issues....

Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay?

Would it make any difference if the gay teacher was male or female?

Would it make any difference if the gay person taught elementary, middle school or high school?

The solution to the decrepit conditions of our government schools and the socialists that are running them, IS VOUCHERS.

For the same reason that I would mind if the teacher was mormon or jehovah'witness, as long as they didn't proseletize it would be their own business.

But being Mormon or Jehovah's Witness is not immoral. Would you object to an strpper (by night) teaching your child? How about someone in the internet porn business?

As long as the gay lifestyle, or ANY sex talk was never presented, I'd have no issue with it.

Absolutely.

If a teacher (Mrs. Smith) were to tell her class: "I really like to perform oral sex on my husband." People would certainly think that this kind of talk was inappropriate.

If a teacher (Mr. Jones) tells his class: "I'm gay." He's talking about what he does in the bedroom. It's inappropriate. That kind of talk does not belong in school.

My daughter had a gay male teacher in her kindergarten class.
The same teacher taught my son in the fifth grade. He was NOT openly gay at that time.

He transferred to the middle school the same year my son graduated from grammar school to the same middle school. This teacher was the technology instructor. He then opened up and brought his life partner in and told all the students he was gay. These kids were sixth through eight grade. They left the campus laughing about the lifestyle. The teacher lost a lot of respect. A

As disgusted as I was, I didn't make issue with it, because the teacher got the just desserts. He lost respect with most of the students.

I had a gay woman for a teacher when in elementary school. Being as it was elementary school, sexuality wasn't part of the classroom. She was a good teacher, played guitar(that was cool!), and was a low key very pleasant teacher on a whole. I don't think her sexuality became public knowledge until a few years later when she made the mistake of going to the NJ shore with her significant other, and ran into former students' parents in the bars.

She still works in the school district for what I know.

I also had two hetero perv male teachers, on in middle school and another in high school, the latter of which I got into a physical fight with after I learned he groped repeatedly my close friend. He wanted to have me arrested, and I countered I'd pay for her defense bills if she pressed charges. He was forced to retire a year or two later for another brewing molestation controversy.

So, I'm all for internet based home schooling. As long as I can remove my (future) kids' PC video cameras when not in use for studying.

Pedophiles are gay men that are attracted to young boys, they have a name amoung gay's, they call them "chickenhawks".

What about men who like young girls? Are they not pedophiles?

Most are sex addicts, having sex with as many as 1,000 "partners" a year, regradless if they are male or female gays.

This statement is ludicrious. Nearly 3 sex partners a day, every day? Your delusional.

Would not want a homosexual teaching my children. Of course, unless teachers are now required to declare their sexual preferences before being hired, how would we know?

Would you hire a homosexual to babysit your child?

If I knew that they were reliable and trustworthy? Sure, why not?

I owned a restaurant in North Indianapolis back in the 80's. I hired many teachers as wait staff (it made a really great moonlight job). Two of my servers were openly gay high school teachers that taught at schools about an hour away from their homes.
Both, (years apart from each other) were charged and convicted with sexual offenses against a minor. They would "recruit" young males and due to the distance to their homes invited the youths to spend the night.
Both of these men seemed to be very respectable and did not flaunt their Homosexuality. I will never ever hire another and if that gets me in any sort of trouble I'll lock the doors and NOBODY has a job.

Yeah, that is pretty far-fetched. I mean, even Bubba didn't get that lucky! ;o)

Yes I would object if my children's teacher were gay, openly or not.
I cannot believe any teacher (or professional for that matter), gay or straight, can completely disconnect his/her personal life from their work.
Therefore, if I had a choice, I would prefer a straight teacher teaching my kids.
And in view of my answer to the first question, the two remaining questions are moot.

I had one in jr high school. It was quite uncomfortable, esp. since she was the gym teacher.

All in all, I'd have a serious talk with the child, and the teacher, and then decide.

Dr,
I don't mean to sidestep your questions, but let me ask this: how would the teacher's sex life, or any aspect of his or her life beyond the classroom, even come up?

In my mind, there is a distinct difference between merely being gay, quietly living out your life, and proselytizing due to an increasingly overt, aggressively politicized homosexual "movement." I would say that there are very few of the former in public education, and a preponderance of the latter. As a result, I would not want any child of mine exposed to the potential psychological damage of such radicalism, not at least until college. I'd really rather not even then, but it's the world today, unfortunately, and they'll need to be able to deal with it.

Why not? Because they are your child's leader and example for a year. Would any "lifestyle" be an unacceptable role model for your children, provided they were otherwise reliable and trustworthy by your definition?

Why do my children need to know the sexual orientation of their teacher? I look on that as a form of harrassment and a kind of mental pedophilia. I don't approach any of my classes by first announcing that I am an active heterosexual and that they should know that. Maybe some of them might think about that but I don't think so. Most people know what is underneath our clothing but they don't sit their thinking about it as a general rule.

So, my answer is thus:

I have a problem with teachers who are open about their sexuality in front of children, period. Gay or straight, married, fornicators, and adulterers - they should all have some sense of decency and not subject children to those thought processes.
