This is the FAA accident report for the mid-air collision in Florida one year prior to the 9/11/01 attacks on the WTC and Pentagon (and PA).
I brought this up in the week of 9/11/01, but this story was apparently "lost" in the news at the time. There were subsequent articles on this topic, and where FReepers can still find them, they should be appended onto posts on this thread.
Some important points to consider:
the Saudi national who piloted his aircraft into the Piper Aztec commercial flight had received his pilot's license from the Phillipines
Early blogs at the time noted that the Saudi pilot was Mohamed Atta or Alhazmi's roommate (this point needs to be confirmed)
This was a 9/11 attack...9/11 of 2000, not 2001
The 9/11 Congressional Commission did NOT research earlier 9/11 attacks such as this one
The 9/11/01 terrorists received $100,000 wire transfer to Florida one week after their 9/11/2000 attack at Ft Pierce airport, on September 18, 2000 ( http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline.jsp?timeline=complete_911_timeline&startpos=300#a062900transfer )
The Ft. Pierce 9/11/2000 attack was only 83 miles from the 9/11/2001 attackers' Del Ray beach condo
...and, this 9/11/2000 attack is relevant to the new discovery that *LAWYERS* in the Clinton Administration prevented Able Danger intel (and other information) on these terrorists from reaching the FBI (read: Gorelick's Wall).
In Vero Beach, FBI agents searched four homes in three neighborhoods, according to witnesses.
A tenant in one of those houses, Adnan Bukhari, was cooperating with the federal agents, sources said.
Bukhari's brother, Ameer Bukhari, died in a small plane crash in Florida last year, according to a lawyer for the family.
Federal sources had initially identified the brothers as possible hijackers who had boarded one of the planes that originated in Boston. Their names had been tied to a car founded at an airport in Portland, Maine. But Bukhari's attorney said it appeared their identifications were stolen and said Bukhari had no role in the hijackings.
It looks like the feds were on to these guys shortly after 9/11...

I beat you... NA NA!
No one reported anything about Atta (in that timeframe). You're confused.
The 9/11/2000 pilot, Bukhari, and his brother shared an apartment with the 9/11 hi-jackers aparently. CNN's 9/12/01 article (linked above in this thread) shows that Bukhari's ID was then used to RENT THE CAR for one of the 9/11/01 hi-jackers.
Then see post #54.
LOL, that's why I pinged you. ;-)
bttt to read later
I think my hunch, that this was simply a demonstration to prove the cell's seriousness to potential investors, was correct after just learning "The 9/11/01 terrorists received $100,000 wire transfer to Florida one week after (9/11/00)" They will have video of the ten Muslims who were praying as the bodies were removed, I suspect we would recognize these ten. At least I hope the FBI or CIA has taken a look at airport video from that day. http://www.cincypost.com/2001/sep/15/crash091501.html
Its a garden variety Mid-Air, happens all the time.
I doubt a 17.5 hour student could on purpose collide with another airplane.
Been reading this reports since my flying career started in 1969.
You mean the kid who was a "wonderful, kind, hardworking example of what every kid should be"...except for the note which revealed "I Love Usama". (Wasn't his father British?)
I don't see anything suspicious in the accident either. It looks like a simple accident. Now look at some of the other details. You seem to be overlooking the obvious. For example, see post #41.
LOL! I took the scenic route through LGF. I don't know whether or not this is really connected. I can't find anything that states this guy was Atta's roommate, but on the other hand, if their identification was stolen, I would think they'd have reported it prior to 9/11.
I swear I didn't read your "Garden Variety" Opine, but goes to show, we think alike.
I also wish to correct a Typo on my last post - I meant I have been reading flying accident reports since 1969.
Terrorist may have hit, killed local pilot
By Randy Ludlow, Post Ohio Bureau
The paths of Roger Boromei, an experienced pilot with Airborne Express and Comair, and student pilot Ameer Bukhari crossed over Florida on Sept. 11, 2000.
The veteran aviator from Maineville in Warren County and the novice from Saudi Arabia were killed when their small planes collided near Port St. Lucie and fell into a citrus grove.
One year to the day, hijackers took over commercial airliners, climbed behind the controls and used them as guided missiles to topple the World Trade Center and gash the Pentagon, killing thousands.
Now, the FBI apparently is investigating if Boromei died in a collision with a possible terrorist pilot in training.
Many of the terrorists identified Friday lived along the same slice of Florida's Treasure Coast and trained as pilots at nearby flight schools. The FBI did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
...
Boromei, 31, had won renewal of his flight instructor certificate while visiting his parents in Okeechobee, Fla., when his twin-engine Piper Aztec collided in sunny skies with Bukhari's single-engine Piper Cherokee. Bukhari was flying solo while practicing landings at a nearby airport.
Boromei and his wife, Lanisha, lived in the Landing at Willow Pond subdivision near Maineville after moving from Florida.
Bukhari, 39, reportedly was a flight engineer for Saudi Arabian Airlines and moved to Florida with his family in 2000 to train to become a pilot at FlightSafety International in Vero Beach, Fla.
On Wednesday, his brother, Adnan Bukhari, a student at the same flight school, was detained for questioning and his home searched by FBI agents.
CNN quoted federal sources that evidence found in a rental car at an airport in Portland, Maine, identified the brothers as the possible terrorists who flew on to Boston to board hijacked planes.
Adnan Bukhari's lawyer told CNN the identities of the two men had been stolen.
...
As their bodies were being removed from the wreckage last year, 10 Islamic men knelt nearby and raised and lowered their arms in prayer.
Oh boy:
One of the Vero Beach houses had been rented by two brothers from Saudi Arabia.
Inside it were two pilot's certificates in the names of Adnan Bukhari and his brother, Ameer Abbas Bukhari.
The landlord said Adnan Bukhari and another man who lived in the house next door had described themselves as Saudi pilots. Both men lived with their wives and children.
Atta lived in Coral Springs
Investigators believe Mr Bukhari's neighbour may have been one of the hijackers, according to CNN reports.
The landlord, Paul Stimeling, said the Bukhari family moved out at the end of August.
Their neighbour's wife and children stayed longer, moving out just days before the terror attacks.
Adnan Bukhari has reportedly been taken into custody.
Although he was not on board the hijacked planes, investigators believe he may have been involved in the attack.

"Ameer Bukhari died in a small plane crash in Florida last year, said Adnan Bukhari's attorney. Roger Richie, a spokesman for Flight Safety Academy, confirmed that Bukhari, a flight engineer with Saudi Airlines, is part of a current yearlong program to train pilots for the airline."

A year long program to train pilots for the airline -- It would be interesting to find out when he started his "year long" training. If he just started the program on or about the time he crashed, a year from then would culminate on 9/11/01.
I agree.
Sorry about your step dad and his friend. They must have loved flying in that B-25.
Most mid-airs seem to happen near an airport when both are on the same frequency and the weather is good.
Do you have a date for that tragic accident?
Are you joking?
Someone posted a link to an earlier post you made about this, and I'm so glad you decided to post it to its own thread. Excellent work--and great memory!
