FR has changed

Yes, even in the 9-10 months I have been coming here.

he's going to get it

Ahh, don't be too hard on him. I appreciate you and what you are doing and wanted to wish the best, under the circumstances. Did you get a cake? ;*)

I don't get it. I just don't get it. Why are we sooo vulnerable to these things and how are these bastards planting them everywhere?

"I hope everyone will remember in their prayers these Marines and their families.
They paid the ultimate price.

May they all rest in peace.
God bless them and their families.

Semper Fi,
Kelly"

Amen

The others have obviously fallen into the trap the media has set with their distortion and lies about Iraq.

I think people forget about how long it took to root out Germnay and Japan after WWII. I didn't happen overnight. The LSM only talks about the negatives. With freerepublic, and posts from the frontline, we'd never hear of the successful events. The history channel show I was telling you about was one of the only shows I have seen that showed the troops in a positive light.

I wasn't even born during the Vietnam war. I can only image the doom and gloom being reported. No freerepublic or internet Centcom briefings back then.

Based on your tagline, it looks like you'll be home for Labor Day.

I did, as a matter of fact because one of my co-workers ratted me out. ;-)

This evening, they're throwing a party at the poolside with adult beverages and all.

Any excuse for a party around here!

section9 is right there is something in Haditha...they don't want us to find.

Or maybe something in plain sight like a big hydroelectric dam and the lake behind it?

"ther than their incessant calls for regime change in Iraq throughout the 1990s."

Excuse me, we put brave men & women in harms way daily "throughout the 1990s" protecting the no fly zone over Iraq. This was on Clinton's watch. You can rant and rave but you can't change the facts.

Yes, we're dealing with the "Instant Gratification Crowd." They think it should be just like the movies. We go in, we invade, we conquer the regime and then everybody lives happily ever after.

This is a different kind of war. The president, the SECDEF and anyone else connected to it has said that from the beginning. Funny how people won't listen to them, but they'll hang loyally onto every deceptive word the media spews forth.

Actually, I leave in less than two weeks and I'm headed to London. (I know, I know...we planned it before 7/7 and we're not gonna back down...LOL) I'll be arriving back in the Sandbox just before Labor Day.

I'd like to make a point and then you will have to excuse me if I am unable to continue the argument as I will not be able to stay online much longer: terrorists are able to do business because governments that are sympathetic to their cause allow them a refuge. What terror sympathising government was going to take us seriously so long as we allowed Saddam-who had been a thorn in our side for so long-to remain in power? By being in Iraq we are able to lure jihadis in from all over the mideast; Saudi, Syria, Iran, Egypt, you name it. There is little in the way of cover where they can hide so that we can bring our advantages in fire support and close air to bear, unlike the Hindu Kush where mechanization and helicopters are of little use. At the same time, we can be easily resupplied (much more so than landlocked Afghanistan) by sea from Kuwait. Iraq always seemed the next logial step in the GWOT to me.

It's amazing that there are still Americans--who should understand best the transformative power of democracy--that still don't grasp the profound accomplishment that Iraq represents, and how important it is to finish what we've started, just as we saw the fight against Nazism and communism to the end.

While some insist on trivializing the war by reducing it to a scorecard of deaths, the greatest among us are defeating this latest global scourge by striking it at its heart. Terrorist cultures can't be defeated by killing the weeds that grow from them, they must be displaced.

If you can think of a more powerful antidote to terrorist cultures than liberty and democracy, we're all ears.

In the meantime, no terrorist is preventing dissenters from rendering their opinion. The rest of us would only ask that, once you've had your fill of spouting off your opinion for the world to see here on this freely accessible Web site, you might consider thanking a soldier, sending a package, or helping a family.

Care to source that bit of misinformation?

BTW, you appear to think the "War" is over?

"You are not new on FR. Why don't you sign up for the 'Daily Terrorist Round-Up' or 'Operation Phantom Fury' so you know what is going on everyday and see what a great job our honorable military is doing."

Whereas we are confident our military is always doing a "great job," and doing it "honorably," I too am getting sick and tired of our guys getting shot up "until the Iraqis can defend themselves."

Will they EVER??

And at what point is the sacrifice of Americans fighting and dying for "moderate" Moslem Iraqis considered above and beyond the call of duty? After three years? Five years?
