Dobson: Frist Guilty of Betrayal [AMEN!!]
News Max ^ | July 29, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 07/31/2005 7:41:22 AM PDT by conservativecorner

Focus on the Family Action founder and chairman Dr. James C. Dobson issued the following statement today after learning that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., had come out strongly in favor of increased federal funding for destructive embryonic stem-cell research:

"It is an understatement to say that the pro-life community is disappointed by Sen. Frist's decision to join efforts to void President Bush's policy limiting the funding of embryonic stem- cell research. Most distressing is that, in making his announcement, Sen. Frist calls himself a defender of the sanctity of human life - even though the research he now advocates results, without exception, in the destruction of human life.

Story Continues Below

"Sen. Frist argues that under the Bush policy, there are insufficient stem-cell lines to maximize what he calls the 'promise' of embryonic stem-cell research. That statement continues the common misconception that embryonic stem cells hold the greatest potential for human healing and therapy. In reality, recently published studies demonstrate that some adult stem cells can form most, if not all, body tissues, just like embryonic cells may be able to do. Furthermore, there will never be a sufficient number of new stem-cell lines to satisfy the sometimes unquenchable thirst for federal money to fund pet projects of researchers. A morally sound line must be drawn at the beginning of this journey into stem-cell research: that no human life is sacrificed for possible or proven scientific gain - period. "The media have already begun speculating that Sen. Frist's announcement today is designed to improve his chances of winning the White House in 2008 should he choose to run. If that is the case, he has gravely miscalculated. To push for the expansion of this suspect and unethical science will be rightly seen by America's values voters as the worst kind of betrayal - choosing politics over principle.

"We urge Sen. Frist to reconsider his position in light of the values he has espoused during his career in public service."

the vast majority of Americans support.

What is your source for your assertion that the vast majority of Americans want the Fed. Govt to fund killing embryos? I'd love to read it.

You've bought into the lie--hook, line and sinker.

Stem cell research has been going on for years. Embryonic stem cells are not as useful as adult or umbilical cord stem cells. The debate over "stem cell research" has been framed by the liberal media and the pro-death forces as "necessary" and "life saving" only as it pertains to cells from 1) embryos created specifically for the research and 2) aborted fetuses.

Stem cells from the umbilical cord and from adults have been used in remarkably successful experiments. In order to preserve a culture of life in our society, we must vocally oppose embryonic stem cell research so as not to slide further down the slippery slope to moral oblivion and create a backhanded acceptance of abortion--"but we NEED abortion--it yields all these necessary stem cells".

Stem cell research, in and of itself, is necessary and valid. It offers great hope to the paralyzed and brain damaged and even might yield a source of "new" organs for those whose organs are damaged or defective. But to create the illusion that we can only perform this research if we destroy human life is wrong, wrong, wrong and I am surprised that Dr. Frist is buying into it!

Taxpayers never have had the option to select and pay only for government programs they agree with.

Yes they have. Through their selection of representatives and Senators who write the laws.

"You've bought into the lie--hook, line and sinker. "

For God's sake, we're talking about stems cells that are going to be THROWN INTO THE GARBAGE!! Do you understand that? The garbage! They aren't going to develop into a baby like a fetus, they don't even have the potential to do so like a frozen embyro. These are microscopic cells on a petri dish that are going to be thrown away.

If there's a one chance in 1,000 that these cells will help cure diseases or provide treatments, any non-fanatical person should be for it. I swear, sometimes I think we've got people on our side who would fit in very well with the Mullahs in Iran, if they were of a different religion.

I do not support Frist. If he ever runs for President, he will never get my vote.

What boils me is how lieberals can be so gaul-darned mad at the terrorists for killing well over 3,000 innocent Americans on 9/11, but can in the same breath support laws that allow over 3,000 innocent babies to be killed EVERY DAY, 365 DAYS A YEAR. And that's just in this country.

This "research" is just another way to get that camel's nose under the tent.

There are other Republicans such as Congressman Vito Fossella of Staten Island, who have deserted their conservative constituents on this issue.

Frist said, the other day, that he has been supporting this at least as long ago as 2001.

I wonder if Frist is too proud to change his mind, even though his information is outdated by discoveries of the last 4 years.

Interesting (and deplorable) statistics, but what do they have to do with embrionic stem cell research?  Are you for or against ESCR?

Where do you think those cells are created?

1) aborted babies

2) embryos that are created for the sole purpose of harvesting the cells and being destroyed.

Do you understand that?

Alot has been proven with regard to adult vs. embryonic stem cells in the last four years. I think you're right.

He is a member of the medical community and there is widespread acceptance of embryonic stem cell research in that community, fueled, in part, by the quest for the almighty Federal Grant Money which may play into this as well.

"Here's your next problem, the first amendment which acknowledges the God given right to freely exercise religion. Under that amendment, people who see utilitarian research that destroys human life as a grave sin have no obligation to be forced to pay for it.

I see..so I guess you don't have a problem the the Islamo-facist segment of the Muslim community freely excercising their religion and their sacred duty to destroy Western Civilization and kill all of the infidels, do you?

Of course the exercise of religion is anathema to the left and to you as well I suspect.

Yeah, it's such an "anathema" to me that I am hurredly writing this reply before I leave with my family to go to church this morning.

And it isn't my problem that you are thinking so emotionally that you react the way all liberals do -yes, it is you who is acting like a liberal guided strictly by your emotions. My reply applies to all government spending, regardless of the issue. Is it okay for the libs to not pay their taxes because of a perceived (and made up) sacred duty to "stop the killing in Iraq" etc or whatever they dont like.

I will fight the good fight against government funded stem-cell research, but should my side lose, I will still pay all of my taxes just as I do now, even though I don't like many things the government spends money on, especially taxpayer funded abortion.

Do you pay taxes? If so, some of your money is being used for taxpayer funded abortions for pregnant teens, welfare moms, and illegal alien moms. That's right, if you pay taxes, you are helping to fund abortions! I don't like it either, but I'm not stupid enough to think that I don't have to pay all of my taxes. As I said in an earlier post, if you are so sure that it is your sacred duty to not pay taxes that help fund what you consider immoral government spending, I invite you to give it a try and see if the nice folks at the I.R.S. agree with you! It would be interesting to see how sympathetic the I.R.S. would be to your "grave sin" argument.

ESCR is a front for abortion justification.

And if even a little cure for warts is found it will be
used to it's maxim.

Leviticus 20
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2 Say further to the people of Israel:

Any of the people of Israel, or of the aliens who reside
in Israel, who give any of their offspring to Molech shall
be put to death; the people of the land shall stone them
to death.

3 I myself will set my face against them, and will cut
them off from the people, because they have given of their
offspring to Molech, defiling my sanctuary and profaning
my holy name.

4 And if the people of the land should ever close their

eyes to them, when they give of their offspring to Molech,
and do not put them to death,
5 I myself will set my face against them and against their
family, and will cut them off from among their people,
them and all who follow them in prostituting themselves to
Molech.
6 If any turn to mediums and wizards, prostituting
themselves to them, I will set my face against them, and
will cut them off from the people.
7 Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am
the Lord your God.
8 Keep my statutes, and observe them; I am the Lord; I
sanctify you.
9 All who curse father or mother shall be put to death;
having cursed father or mother, their blood is
upon them.

Ac 7:43
No; you took along the tent of Moloch, and the star of
your god Rephan, the images that you made to worship; so I
will remove you beyond Babylon.'

Yes they have. Through their selection of representatives and Senators who write the laws.

You have a tremendous grasp of the obvious! (and you have to know that was not what I was talking about) For the third and last time, try and file an "ala-carte" tax return and see what happens.

Flame away, but I gotta go to church, back in a couple of hours.

You say you go to church but you then compare Christan's
who uphold the word
of GOD against the murder of the innocents
to the murdering Satan worshiping Mullahs whom are
also murderers?

You need to have a talk with the boss while you are there.

My feeling is that some MD's like to sneer at researchers who think it is more productive, and more ethical, to fund Non-ESCR.

Sort of like the self-satisfied MDs and MSM who used to sneer at the idea of prions

I haven't tried that, personally, but some people have.

I prefer the "write your congressman" route.

"The difference between us is your desire to have government take my money to do your bidding. I don't want the government taking your money to do my bidding. That makes one of us a lefty, care to guess which?"

Yeah, I know! Life in a free democratic society really sucks 'cause sometimes I don't get my own way while sometimes others get theirs . Right on, Bro...couldn't agree more. (sarcasm off)
