A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....07-26 & 27-05....I Have a Rant!!
Billie

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Got a gripe? Wanna share it? Wanna get it off your chest? Well, now's your chance...right here, right now!

I'll start...
I like the sidebar - I like seeing the titles of Breaking News, and other news, when I check My Comments. What I DON'T like is those annoying polls at the top of the sidebar! I don't like polls; I don't particularly like to vote in them, so I don't like having to check one of the little squares just to move the *latest* one to the bottom of the sidebar. Whether we have Opinion Polls on the sidebar or not should be an option *we* can choose in our Preferences. At least I think so. :(
This thread will run for two days, so go ahead; it's your turn...get on *your* soapbox! (but do watch your language!)

From another email….and how timely?

Teaching math

Last week, I purchased a hamburger for $2.58. The young girl at the
counter took my three one-dollar bills, and I also handed her 8 cents. She
stood there, holding the nickel and three pennies, while looking at the
screen on her register.

I sensed her discomfort and told her to just give me two quarters, but she
called the manager, who had to explain the transaction to her. Today I ran
across the below "illustration" and felt compelled to share.

Teaching Math In American Schools In 1946:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In American Schools In 1957:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In American Schools In 1968:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
$80. Did he make a profit?

Teaching Math In American Schools In 1979:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
$80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

Teaching Math In American Schools In 1990:

By cutting down beautiful forest trees, the logger selfishly makes $20.
What do you think of people who destroy nature just to make a living? Topic
for class participation after answering the question: How did the forest
birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down the trees? (There are no
wrong answer s.)

I do respond... NO I do not speak spanish. It is maddening. I have learned enough spanish to understand what they are say (can piece together words), they mock us, and I have been able to call them on it,by asking for manager... that stops them. went thru drive by at MCD with son late evening, Mexican music was blaring and had to repeat order several times , they were to busy singing, and jibbering in spanish. Got home and son just lost it- wrong order. We called asked for manager and told them order was wrong, wrote to McDonalds headqtrs, store. Haven't heard their music again. STOP ME ... ranting again. What part of midwest. Heard Nebraska having same problems

Nope, .....I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?
>
So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone because of profiling.

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds and other dunder-headed attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel doubly ashamed of themselves - if they have any such sense.

As the writer of the award winning story "Forrest Gump" so aptly put it, "Stupid is as stupid does."

Come on people wake up!!! Keep this going. Pass it on to everyone in your address book. Our Country and our troops need our support

I'd be willing to bet that if that test were given in high schools and our liberal colleges, there would be an awful lot of failing grades.

Keep up the good work, dubya.

Our Lord's Blessings to you and Eve.

You Can Watch

Off we go, into the wild black wonder,
Riding fire into the sky.
No one knows of the pressure we’re under,
But nobody wonders why!

Hurl me aloft with a slingshot, Momma!
I don’t care how hard I fall!
Just put me closer to the face of God,
Though I know He’s mighty tall!

Some will say I’m a crazy person,
Putting my life on a bet.
Gimme a bigger rocket, Momma,
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

When I look down and see the world,
Like a kiddie pool at my feet,
I’m closer to God than I ever should be,
And God you know it’s neat!

So pack my drawers with dynamite,
Put TNT in my seat.
A Roman candle you can watch,
But it makes my life complete!

I loved the joke about the monks. I'll be sending that out.

I didn't keep the LEGO email so I can't help with the 'whodunnit' question you were asked but I don't think that it was by the LEGO company. I believe that it was privately done.

Hi, GB,

Here is your *logo* that you and Dolly talked about. :)

I love your aqua stars on black bg - don't know what you had in mind, but I think the eagle looks neat above the Statute of Liberty!
