A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Got a gripe? Wanna share it? Wanna get it off your chest? Well, now's your chance...right here, right now!

I'll start...
I like the sidebar - I like seeing the titles of Breaking News, and other news, when I check My Comments. What I DON'T like is those annoying polls at the top of the sidebar! I don't like polls; I don't particularly like to vote in them, so I don't like having to check one of the little squares just to move the *latest* one to the bottom of the sidebar. Whether we have Opinion Polls on the sidebar or not should be an option *we* can choose in our Preferences. At least I think so. :(
This thread will run for two days, so go ahead; it's your turn...get on *your* soapbox! (but do watch your language!)

Oh, Rus!!! I wish you had pinged me--I just happened on to your post kinda by accident! That just stinks! Don't let them get away with that kind of dirty tricks. To me it proves that you are a REAL challenge to the good ole boys up there!

On top of that, how's your foot tonight? Hope your hard work isn't aggrivating it too much.

Great Navy photos, EMB.

That guy in the last photo with the new prop has a pretty easy job doing it in dry-dock.

We used to change props underwater alongside our ship...circa '66. That's the USS WHITEHALL (DD-634). She hit a whale and bent the tip of the port screw to the point that it was causing too much vibration to the shaft and hull. She came alongside the PIEDMONT at 1400 hr. We were in the water at 1410 and worked until 1830 in prep work to change the prop the next morning.

The Bos'n piped reveille at 0600. We wrapped three turns of primer cord around the shaft just fwd of the hub of the old screw. Qt 0601, we yelled "Fire In The Hole." The blast brought everyone on deck - most in their skivvies.

By 1500, we had the new prop installed, got the job order signed off and we went on liberty.

I keep my foot up whenever I possibly can. During the day I take breaks and sit down with my foot up. Long slow progress.

The local GOP do not like me and that is their problem. I am more of a Republican than they could ever think of being. I do whet I say I am going to do, I don't just say the words and do something else.

They are rino's and part of the problems we have in this state. They can't stand the fact that we started the tax revolt in December, we have succeeded in defeating a salestax increase and defeated the school budget this year.

They have had their way for to many years and have destroyed the economy. I will attend the democrat fundraisers for their opponents in the local race for town council, and hopefully defeat them by helping the opposition.

I warned them over and over, you will regret the day you didn't endorse me. I will heavily scrutinize town government when elected, they know it, but things will be worse if they don't knock it off.

Trapped!

Read:
Matthew 11:25-30

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart. —Matthew 11:29

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 61-63

cover A New York City man who sold books and magazines on the street was freed after being trapped for 2 days under a mountain of paper in his apartment. The man's collection of printed materials, which he had stacked wall to wall and floor to ceiling, collapsed and buried him alive. Emergency workers filled 50 garbage bags as they dug through the debris just to reach him.

We don't need a Mount Everest of old newspapers to know the feeling of being trapped under the crush of our work and the burden of overwhelming spiritual demands. Yet a glance at our Savior reveals His deep inner rest. In Tyranny of the Urgent, Charles E. Hummel writes: "Jesus' prayerful waiting for God's instructions . . . gave Him a sense of direction, set a steady pace, and enabled Him to do every task God assigned."

Jesus invites the weary to come to Him. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29).

This rest that comes with salvation is not achieved by effort but is received by faith. In Christ we can also find release from the tyranny of the urgent and accomplish everything He has given us to do. —David McCasland

Come, heavy-laden, weary one,
Come unto Christ for rest;
Come lay your every burden down,
And lean upon His breast. —Anon.

Following Jesus takes the busyness out of life.

I am in total awe of your years as a Navy diver, Dave.

Was being one a long time goal, or did you join the Navy
and "they decided" what you wanted to become?!..:))

Above are pictures of the Korean War Veterans Memorial. From 1950 to 1953, the United States joined with United Nations forces in Korea to take a stand against what was deemed a threat to democratic nations worldwide. The Korean War Veterans Memorial honors those Americans who answered the call, those who worked and fought under the trying of circumstances, and those who gave their lives for the cause of freedom.

Stalin was boycotting the UN and refused to honor his word in freeing N.Korea after WWII. Stalin then made a secret pact with Communist China to have China send the troops while Stalin secretly supplied the "air support".

N.Korea is Joe Stalin's baby and bjclinton/richardson/albright adopted them as foster children for we the taxpayers to pay "respect".

History lesson commies always seek to get others to do their waring for them while they secretly provide the funding and instructions.

Good morning! Thanks for the ping, Rus.

Good--you're taking good care of that foot. It has got to be very painful when you're trying to work hard to get the job done. I'm sure those antibiotics are beginning to do their thing to get you well.

Man--I hate you have to work with DUM-ocrats to get anything done, but the establishment up there needs to be shaken out. I want you to be the winner, though. I know if you were, people in your part of the state would really know what good government can be!
