Not that you asked...but I think Hillary will vote "yes" on this one and keep her powder dry for a Thomas/Scalia appointment to Chief Justice. ...but whadda I know?

My guess is that anyone running for POTUS as a Dem has to vote against all SCTOUS judges. JMHO.

99% sure the Dems will filibuster if they even smell a hint of anti-abortion, Roe vs. Wade is a bad law, from Roberts. Hope the Republicans bring mattresses or simply just end the judicial filibuster.

"Wasn't that the same argument they had with Ginsburg who actually refused to answer and that didn't preclude her from being appointed."

Advice is free and numerous but I believe Judge Roberts would be in no danger in answering many pointed, loaded question: "As I believe was a wise position, Justice Ginsburg felt it important to not comment on issues that are in process to be considered by the Supreme Court."

Hatch made a good point when discussing the amount of consultation that preceded this nomination. He said that Clinton consulted with him because he was respectful and didn't threaten him with a filibuster. So I ask Chucky Cheese, Durbin, Reid and all the rest...why in the world do they think the President should give them any time after the way they bash him day after day day. I mean do they really consider calling for the President to fire Rove a good will gesture?

I'd be tingling like crazy myself

####

The Roberts family had dinner with the Bushes tonight. I would be too weak in the knees to walk down the hall to the podium.

Ok, well, he may have said that. This was the first I heard him where I thought he MEANT it. I get the feeling his shift was one of constituent pressure, not principle. I'll take it, but I still don't trust him.

Ed Meese is on Fox and says he knows him and thinks very highly of him.

You need to re-direct your anger. Lashing out at a generation really isn't smart. Supporting those who think like you do, really accomplishes a lot.

I thought Judge Roberts was extremely humble and very much a family man. Very respectful. I liked him.

For example, dissenting opinions by Roberts have questioned the constitutionality of the Endangered Species Act and argued that Americans tortured by Iraq when it was a terrorist state can receive no compensation.

Well, as for that argument, isn't that along the lines of the odious debt thing? Sounds reasonable to me not to make the Iraqis pay twice for Saddamn.

You don't understand, do you. The Left has already lost this. This isn't Bork, who came across as a wierdo, and didn't support RKBA, to boot. We control the Senate, and when squishoids like Lindsey Graham start talking like they actually have a pair between their legs, that means that they have heard from the Base that the Base is pissed and wants this guy confirmed come hell or Heinrich Himmler.

Specter has less room to pull his stunts than he knows. The game belongs to Cornyn, Fred Thompson, Gillespie, and probably McCain, who's bought his way back into the game by becoming a strong advocate for a conservative justice. Watch JMC go real butch for this nominee-any hope for '08 depends on it. The Donks don't realize that they are going to face a solid phalanx of Republicans on this. Even the Olympia Snowes of this world will like this guy.

This will not be a Bolton issue where Chuckie and Pat can sit on a nomination for document requests. Specter might tolerate that, but the Base will freaking revolt at the first sign of softness towards the Donks. Bush knows that the Base is his ace in the hole. The Base will be VERY, VERY firm with the Senate and the RSCC over the next month. The President will make sure that the Base communicates any displeasure with waverers. No deviationism will be tolerated.

The Donkeys don't know this. They don't realize that Cornyn will be running the show. Not Specter.

That's my guess, and I think it's a good one.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Specter will NOT make any attempt to block Roberts unless some major new DAMNING info arises - unlikely since Roberts was just up at the J.Committee...

I don't think they have 40 votes for a filibuster right now.

IF we have to, we'll nuke em.
