Was Joe Wison Himself A "Leak" Source in Revealing Plame's CIA Identity?
FreeRepublic.com, Conversation with Victor Davis Hanson, Posts re David Corn, et al. ^ | 7/17/05 | FReetheSheeples

Could minor Ambassador Joe Wilson himself have been the source in blowing his own Wife's "cover" (even if she had not been a covert CIA agent at the time of the alleged "leaks")?

It is distinctly possible, (though it may be unlikely that Joe Wilson himself directly was NY Times Judith Miller's source), since Joe Wilson himself evidently routinely bragged openly to strangers about her CIA employment, prior to such "cover" being "blown" in the press.

Here's an example of Joe's apparently routine and open bragging about Valerie being a "CIA agent," which became known directly to me over a year ago:

He certainly bragged about it per a famous and highly reliable source's (named below) account of his own face-to-face encounter with Amb. Joe Wilson prior to Valerie Plame's "outing" as a CIA agent/employee.

Based upon a personal conversation (we were in a small group eating; it was NOT an "off the record") I had with eminent historian Victor Davis Hanson (we were at a luncheon table together during a trip to Europe), it appeared entirely possible that Joe Wilson himself was the (or one source, if not the original one) possible source in revealing his own wife's status as a CIA agent or employee.

Victor Davis Hanson (Wilson presumably knew Victor Davis Hanson wrote regularly for NRO (National Review Online), had done OpEds for the Wall street Journal, and other publications, and had his own Website with a widespread following) said he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were both in the same "Green Room" before a televised debate-discussion on Iraq, etc. and Joe first warned the TV make-up person not to get powder on his $14,000 Rolex watch, then he bragged to Victor about several things (possessions and trips to Aspen, etc.), like his expensive car (I think it was a Mercedes), and then bragged about his beautiful ("hot") wife who, Joe Wilson said (braggingly) was a CIA operative.

I asked Victor Davis Hanson Why he didn't write up this account.(?) He replied that Joe Wilson would probably simply deny it, since only he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were in the Green Room together before the broadcast.

However, it is now easy to surmise that Joe Wilson is a crass, materialistic, self-promoting, vain, egotistical, bragaddocio-opportunist, so this account is perfectly consistent with Valerie Plame's TWO photo shoots in Vanity Fair.

Wasn't she a she a "shoe salesman" at the CIA?

(I liked that thought; humorous.)

Interesting information re:

Operative Chris Lehane being a likely promotion agent for this story-theretofore "without legs."

Yeah, I read time and again that he was promoting the story to the media. Do a search on LeHane/Wilson or something like that.

"Wow! Makes sense or is at least internally consistent, is it not, thus far, with what we may (or may not) know. "

It's the only internally consistant explanation I can think of.

I think Rush is right on too, as usual - that the Dems are just trying to confuse the issue so much that voters just have a fuzzy indistince idea that Bush did something wrong but that its complicated and that they dont understand exactly what - perfect for complaining that theres too much of a cloud over the white house to let Bush pick a supreme court nominee, and that the nation would be better served by waiting till 2008.

I think this will deflate just like the 60 Mins crapola.

It regularly occurs to me, folks do not understand "classified" security; how it works.

For whatever reasons, Plame GAVE UP her classified status. (Maybe to give birth?) Even then, one does NOT recommend one's husband unless one perceives one is so "inside" that one's past cannot stand revealed. And that such suggests that the "covert" doesn't give a rat's damn any whichway.

Big heads suggesting Wilson go to to Africa reeks of unprofessionalism. There's usually a wait/see period of time after a "classified" goes "unclassified". And even if "unclassified", there's another window. A few political "cycles" must pass. Believe or no, there's "understandings" within the spy community.

All double agents are at risk in this Plame/Wilson foot game. Regardless of which country they are "doubling" for.

Those SOB's. Plame/Wilson - most particularly those who approved this "plan".

I'd like to damn most spectacularly those at top who approved this. And, I cannot do that. It's a wierd world. In the spy/counter spy game. Not for everyone.

I stand with President Bush: Let the investigation go forward; and facts be revealed.

You & I agree, Adam on the likely origins of this story,

and moreover on the tactical and strategic aims of the Dem)MSM:

(creates a distraction from much more substantive and important life-and-death issues: defeat of Bush USSC nominees, interfere with War on Terror and diminsih likelihood of success in Iraq, hurts Bush & Rove, (& the GOP), distraction from other agenda items, like tax reform and Social Sec. Reform, distraction from the positive signs in the economy by focusing on a bogus but negative story, etc.) of this "tempest in a teapot."

Thanks for your contributions & thoughts.

Thanks for the "Classified world" info. & thoughts.

I had a Top Secret Clearance myself over 20 years ago. That was then, this is now.

Didn't need to/ get to use the full high Clearance much, if at all, though.

Too bad. It's all that it declares to be. Most dealing in "high security" have no conception of "politics". Only the threat to US Citizenry, from the US Side. That's why the Plame/Wilson in vitro has me so aggravated. It exemplifies everything Liberals say they are "classically" against. Clueless, they get columns.

And. while bitching nonstop against the Patriot Act.

I agree with your comments about the almost deliberate misunderstanding adn calcualted hysteria about the Patriot Act. CIA and other agencies, e.g., the FBI, are hyper-concerned about PR backlash and are dominated to some extent by bureaucratic fear and self preservatoin, as well as a great reliance on lawyers at every turn, (as I understand it, at least), and are, largely fortunately, moderated by the norms of society, and obedience to the Law and lawyers, but are, if anything, too risk-averse in protecting our security vs. playing the bureacratic CYA-PR game. As I am told: A slavish observation of even the least nuance of "civil liberties" will trump national security every time, almost. So, lihgten up, ALA, ALCU, Moveon.org, et al., you leftist ideologues & Democrat operatives. Vigilalnce is always reqired in the interest of preserving liberty, but not unwarranted paranoia, which erodes credibilty of radical, or more precisely, hysterical, libertarians.

The "out there" party can only operate word of mouth; if not subversively. Yes, I do kin what you say. So much to address and cleanup. It will be done. Keep the faith. It is far older than you. And with good cause.
