About 500 faith-hate and race-hate crimes — ranging from arson attacks on mosques to Muslim women being spat at in the street — have been reported in Britain since the London bombings, writes Dipesh Gadher.
According to police sources, about 200 of these incidents are deemed significant enough to have potential repercussions within communities.
They include mosques being set alight in Birkenhead, Merseyside, Telford, Shropshire and Leeds.
“We have definitely seen a spike, but these are not co-ordinated incidents,” said Assistant Chief Constable Rob Beckley, head of the Association of Chief Police Officers’ community tensions team. The authorities normally deal with about 50-60 similar incidents a week.
Beckley said police forces were “busting a gut” to respond to the crimes and were making swift arrests in many cases. However, he remained concerned that “a catalytic incident” could trigger something far more serious, such as a full-blown race riot.
Muslim leaders have called for calm and have unequivocally condemned the London attacks. But last week they were criticised for failing to do enough to confront extremists within their own community.
“We have reached a dangerous crossroads and the direction we choose will prove to be a defining moment in our history,” said Shahid Malik, the Labour MP for Dewsbury, home to one of the bombers.
“The knowledge that the bombers were British Muslims . . . has sent us a signal we can no longer ignore, that there is indeed an ‘enemy within’,” he said. “The battle for the soul of the community has begun.”
Tony Blair has invited Muslim leaders to a “crisis” summit on Tuesday to help him “pull up this evil ideology by its roots”.
Under new laws, preachers such as Yusuf al-Qaradawi — who has condoned child suicide bombers — denied entry into America and other European Union countries would face automatic exclusion from Britain.
Charles Clarke, the home secretary, is reviewing his powers to deport foreigners and impose specific conditions on asylum seekers. A separate consultation is just ending on whether imams coming to Britain should have a professional qualification and understand English.
A counter-terrorism bill due in the autumn will create a new offence of “glorifying or endorsing” terrorism. Two further offences being drawn up by the Home Office will mean extremists who provide or receive terrorist training would face prosecution, as would those committing “acts preparatory to terrorism”, such as fund-raising or providing safe houses.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but a little anarchy may be needed to see the foe we are all up against.

It's hard to kow how far this would go. We had our own retaliation crimes after 9/11. Some poor Seik was murdered in cold blood in Arizona. Fortunately, this kind of thing was not rampant.

Let me state for the record that I firmly and unchangeably believe that Muslim "integration" into Western societies and cultures is simply NOT possible. Not now. Not ever. NOT coming soon to a country near you.
Indeed, I recall reading - right here on FreeRepublic - quoted passages of the Quran that expressly _forbid_ Muslims from mixing with non-Muslims.
The West - and Christianity (along with its predecessor, Judaism) - represents freedom. It represents respect for the individual. It represents tolerance - the very "tolerance" of non-Western movements in our midst which will seek to destroy us.
Islam represents submission to a quasi-facist religious/state. Individual "freedom" is discouraged (just look at that frequently-posted pic of Islamic women, all-identical in their black coverings). Everything that we embrace in the West true Islamics despise.
The two cultures are, by their nature - by every parameter of measure - incompatible. They cannot be _made_ compatible. They must forever remain at odds.
Islam openly touts how it intends to rule the earth. To gain that goal, it will crush the West out of existence by any means possible. They'll use nuclear weapons once the right (read: determined) Islamics possess them. But perhaps their most potent weapon is DEMOGRAPHICS. If not by force of arms, they intend to overwhelm us by force of numbers.
And, with the passage of time, they slip into our midst. We see this in the burgeoning Muslim populations in Europe, and even here in the United States and Canada.
But still, there is no "integration". There is only self-isolation (remember again, Islamics are forbidden to assimilate by Islam itself). And, with that, there is also - even among the [so-called] "peaceful" Islamics - silent smiles and head-nodding whenever a blow is struck "for the cause" against the hated West.
I believe that if we of the West are indeed engaged in a total war with Islam (do YOU believe that, dear reader?), the West _cannot_ win if it restrains itself to fighting that war based solely on "western principles" of engagement. The other side will use ANY means possible to defeat us. For them, the end justifies the means. If WE are to win, we will not do so until we drop the pretenses of being to "civilised" about our cause and display a [regretful] willingness to engage the enemy on THEIR terms. Doing anything less will be like bringing a knife to a gunfight, as the saying goes.
At the very least, we should recognise that our love of freedom - and our willingness to tolerate those of diverse beliefs within our Western societies - has an Achilles Heel. That fault is that our Western societies thrive on the "live and let live" principle only so long as everyone _in_ the societies _also_ embrace that viewpoint.
The West is now welcoming into its midst a culture that absolutely - and openly - rejects this philosophy. We are admitting into our countries the cancer that will seek to kill us from within.
What can one do with cancer?
With a medical cancer, if the cancer cannot be cut out or forced to shrink to harmlessness through chemotherapy or radiation, it will eventually kill the body.
But what options do the Western civilisations have with the Islamic cancer growing within their own borders? Must we allow them to _continue_ to grow, because (due to our Western notions of tolerance) we lack the intestinal fortitude to prevent that growth? Even though we see the dangers of doing nothing?
As the title of this topic goes, "Should Muslims Be Targeted?"
As we struggle with that question, perhaps we should ask ourselves another:
"As Islam grows in strength within the West, will _Westerners_ be targeted?"

I've been using the single fold method and it also works well.
Islam has a 1400 year history of empirialistic conquest by the sword that supports what you write. But how many Westerners have bothered to read this history? Very few. Instead, we are feed a steady diet of multicultural revisionism which demands that Westerners denigrate their own culture and instead celebrate the "Other" as being culturally superior. It is a recipe for disaster and self-destruction from within.
Standing next to a stroller before you blow yourself up kind of seems more than hate-based to me. It seems like pure evil.
