Test Screening
The Hills Geoff Earle reports Senator Sam Brownback will hold a personal meeting with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Brownback, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, was asked if he believes Gonzales would make a good SCOTUS nominee. I need to talk with him about his view of the Constitution to tell. Thats what I hope to do this week, Brownback said.
My initial response is that if Brownback is interviewing Gonzales as a possible nominee, this must mean the White House is serious about the possibility of nominating him. Brownback is one of the strongest conservative voices in the Senate and a likely 2008 candidate. Getting his stamp of approval for a Gonzales nomination would go a long way toward making that pick a reality.
Well said.
As you can see, for many of us this would be a betrayal of the highest degree, and a death knell for the momentum the Conservative base has given the GOP in the last decade. Hope was finally in sight, we did everything right, and when the moment came...........Al Gonzalez benefited from the "friends and family" plan.
I would sit out 2006. I would never again volunteer to help on a campaign for a candidate, and donating money or time would simply be out of the question. There would be little point to my loyalty to the GOP anymore.
I would also do everything in my power to label Bush the liar that Liberals claim he is. Because then, he actually would be. I think that if Al Gonzalez gets nominated, we all on the right should join the chorus calling Bush a "liar," questioning his credibility on everything, and demanding investigations. If we can't trust his promise made at every campaign stop across the country, I'm not sure we can trust him at all, period.
Some Conservative who wants to win the Presidency needs to come out publicly right now against Alberto Gonzalez. It would be breaking ranks with the White House, but it would almost assure the momentum is his/hers to lose for the GOP primary in 2008.
I am calling for that Constitutional hero.
"It seems by electing Republicans, we simply prolong the agony"
I agree. If this is true, Bush has hoodwinked us all and can not be trusted. Wonder what else he thinking of pulling??
Should have worked for and voted for Kerry instead of Bush? Man, time for a drink. :(
Um, if he isn't "on the short list", why did Dubya expend the capital to go on the attack when Gonzalez was being vilified by the right?
He IS on the short list, or Dubya wouldn't have cared.
And, if Dubya would start doing what he SAID he'd do if elected, we'd stop the "bashing". It isn't "bashing" - it's expecting the man to keep his word. (I know..an old fashioned perspective on things that's clearly outdated nowdays!)
It will take Stevens stepping down before Roe is overturned. I would rather see someone else appointed, but the sky is not falling if it is Gonzales.
Why the heck would replacing STEVENS with a real judge make a difference, but replacing O'Connor with a real judge would not?
Bush better get started replacing these arrogant Rulers with judges, and he better do it with this nomination. It was a campaign promise.
In the context of this post, not until Stevens or another lefty steps down will Roe be overturned. We need the President to replace both with strict constructionist/originalist judges.
Why is it Clinton can get two far left-wing judges appointed with no problem but it can't be expected that Bush and the Republicans to keep their promises when conservatives are far greater majority than liberals?
How can you call yourself pro-life and vote for someone that refuses to appoint judges that will overturn Roe? The blood of the unborn is on your hands if you do.
He can gain all those Hispanic votes without losing the millions of conservative voters by appointing Emillo Garza or Miguel Estrada.
The Republicans are going to lose a heckuva a lot more votes than they will gain if Bush fails to keep his promise and nominate a Scalia-like originalist, a lot more than his father lost in 1992.
Overturning Roe would return the power to the people on the issue and allow several states to outlaw abortion and virtually every state to implement further restrictions against it.
It's idiotic to state that Roe can't be overturned when three justices already support it being overturned. Nor is there any reason why Bush shouldn't keep his promise and appoint judges like Scalia and Thomas.
If you have any less expectations than that, then you are spineless. It's no wonder Republicans can will election after election and have virtually nothing to show for it when mindless people like you refuse to demand Republican politicians do what they promised to do.
Roe Vs Wade will not be overturned no matter how conservative the SOTUS gets. If you want to stay under the delusion that it can be over turned than be ready for more disappointments. I am just being realistic here and telling others not to get unrealistic because they will be crushed by reality.
Like what more is he going to lose, are you going to impeach him from his "second" term. May be you can get Buchanin to start an impeachment campaign.
If you're not pressuring Bush appoint justices that will do so, you're a major part of the problem.
Calling yourself a pro-life and not fighting for politicians that will overturn Roe makes you responsible for the problem.
Gag!
His administration increased spending at the fastest rate since the Lyndon Johnson administration in his first term, pushed through the socialist Medicare prescription drug plan and has done absolutely nothing to secure the borders. If he can't keep his promise on the judiciary, he is the ENEMY of the conservative movement.
You're nit wit if you don't understand that. There is nothing worse than morons that blindly vote for Republicans that impement leftist ideas.
