There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
Re: "What an idiot. She kept asking him why we were attacked on 9/11 and he couldn't tell her."
She said he was a liar... And she was right!
I say nominate Laura for the Supreme Court!!!!
Thank you so much for the information on snugs....
First person I thought of this morning was snugs....hopefully, she will be able to report to us her "live" reports soon...
Ivan and Snugs both have been reported as A-OK. Amen to prayers.
I just heard from a friend who was on the tube this morning and I think I have explanation for the early stories that it was a "massive power failure"
That's what they were telling the passengers while they were trying to evacuate them from underground rather than saying "there's been a bomb at Edgeware and there might be one on this train too" which could perhaps cause people to panic.
MadIvan is here:
"The Irish are not THIS crazy."
That is the truth.
The IRA would NOT today do something like this.
thanks...they are all at the hotel.
The problem is that this "mayor" is one of those who can't seem to comprehend that we need to jail the terrorists at Gitmo and other places indefinitely - or kill them. (I prefer the latter, but he of course would not dream of that option.)
Egypt saying their ambassador was killed who was kidnapped in Iraq.
MY Sis, Bro-in-law, and 13 y/o niece have been in London on leave from active duty in Germany....taking day-trips out of the city.....I received an email from them 30 mins ago, they are at the airport waiting to check in. I share your relief, and extreme empathy for those who have not yet made contact with loved ones in London. I was freekin bigtime not very long ago, as you must have been.....
If I had my druthers and was a passenger, I'd want to hear it was a power failure and the real story later.
Two people worry about was MAD IVAN AND SNUGS OH MAN AP wire reporting that Egyptian envoy in Iraq got whack today that dude was held hostage
I suppose that caller would have blamed the US for Pearl Harbor because of the oil embargo against Japan.
Al-Qaeda plot against London 'inevitable'

It is "inevitable" that Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network will try to stage an attack in London, the British capital's new police chief said in an interview.
Sir Ian Blair's warning in the Daily Telegraph newspaper echoed similar concerns expressed a year ago by Sir John Stevens, his predecessor as Metropolitan Police commissioner.

"It is inevitable that terrorists connected with Al-Qaeda will attempt to carry out an atrocity in London," said Blair, 51, who took over as Britain's most senior police officer on Tuesday.
"I know that because they have. It is difficult to calculate whether it is inevitable that they will get through."
Al-Qaeda, perpetrator of the September 11 attacks in New York and Washington in 2001, is regarded by the British government as "the most significant terrorist threat" to the nation.
Besides day-to-day policing in greater London, the Metropolitan Police is responsible for anti-terrorist operations all over Britain.
Blair told the Daily Telegraph that he backed the introduction of identity cards in Britain, saying they would help identify suspects in anti-terrorist raids. He also called for telephone wiretaps to be allowed as evidence in terrorist trials.
Stevens, who has retired, spoke of the "inevitability" of an Al-Qaeda attack on London shortly after the Madrid commuter train bombings in March last year in which 191 people died.
The idiots in Iraq have killed the Egptian Envoy.
I heard from FOX that London has been a hotbed for Islamic Extremist and they had just deported a bunch of them. It's time for them to deport them all and close all the mosque.
