I live in Odessa and work in Midland at the mall. I love watching the CAF do their thing in October. God keep the ones who were killed recently on the east coast (forgive me, I can't remember exactly where they were.)
I have a few "dust" related allergies here (who doesn't! LOL) but the gins still bother me whenever I visit up there. And don't even ask me to come in the spring when the sandstorms start for real. Yuk!

We get snow about every winter, but it is nothing like the NE US. Our snow is measured in mere inches; "oldtimers" here have told me that they have had snowstorms that delivered three feet or so of snow, but this is rare.
Summers out here can be brutal. Our average hunidity is about 9-12%. We have had summers where it was 114 in the shade and the asphalt liquified.

I really liked that background you used tonight. Is it one of the new ones? We can tell that you love and respect the troops! Thank you--as a troop's mom!

I remember people in the breakroom discussing the rivalry between Midland and Odessa. As an outsider, it struck me as surreal. By the way, I recently rented "Friday Night Lights" (I read the book many years ago) and wanted to know how well the community received the film.

Yes it is. I made up about five or six this afternoon. Different sizes and shapes. All can be easily resized up, or down.

This rivalry is hard to understand for anyone not living here. It is vicious at times. And when football season starts, I just don't want to hear any bad stuff about Permian while working in Midland--my son and I both graduated from there. He graduated 2 years after the year portrayed in "Friday Night Lights" and knew some of the players.
Most people here accepted the movie but thought it made everyone in Odessa seem like a bunch of real hicks. They were ready to kill the author of the book after it came out! LOL!

Well, this pic was taken about 60 miles SE of here, but the vegetation is similar here in Lubbock.

I once asked some of the folks in the breakroom how the rivalry started and one of the folks saud that it went back to a football game in the 1940s. Is this the case?
BTW, I had lived in Balmorhea for a year; taking a trip to Midland or Odessa was a big deal!

Born and raised here! Some of my ancestors came here under Spanish land grants. My German ancestors (father's side of the family) came here in the 1840s.
