Senator Lindsey Graham made it very clear on the Hannity radio show today. If some conservatives thought he would get wobbly in the Supreme Court battle, that fear should now be abated.
Graham will support the Constitutional option if the DemocRATS try to filibuster a qualified candidate because of ideology.
Graham noted that it was not done with Scalia or Ginsberg. It has never been done that way.
He further noted that the President, who was elected twice, made it clear that he most respects Scalia and Clarence Thomas. That is the type of pick Graham expects.
He basically said that he wouldn't go whobbly. If Democrats try to filibuster on purely ideological reasons then he will vote for the Constitutional option. I think he is a little upset with his DemoRat buddies. Good!
Or have gotten rid of his DU plant staffer.
If Graham does not stand firm, I will ban myself from FreeRepublic for a week. Believe me, that would be difficult.
I hope so.
I really hope he means what he said. We have retreated so many times on the senate fights, I really consider this to be in some ways the last ditch.
Call and tell him you approve.
How about calling him to tell him if he screws up again like the last time, he can forget about being re-elected.
Lando
He always said if Dems filibustered a SCOTUS nominee, he would go nuclear. We just need one more Repub to come our way, and I am sure we would get one at least.
Save the negative call. Let them know you approve of his stand.
Odds are that the Pubbies remain consistent -- they will pull defeat out of the jaws of victory --- again.
Anyone have the transcripts of the Hannity/Graham conversation, especially the last two minutes?
I caught the last 5-10 minutes of the conversation with Hannity and just as they were closing, Hannity hit him with the question. Graham initially said it in a way that agrees with your point. However, what caught my ear specifically was as Graham was trying to answer, Hannity spoke over him, and Graham rephrased what he was saying. I did not hear every single word, but Graham added qualifiers to the statement from minutes before. My overall impression was that he rushed in the "wiggle room" phrases to get himself off the hook later.
Graham has already been dealt the "Kiss of Death" by Harry Reid:
"Seeking a possible consensus nominee, Reid recommended Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Mel Martinez of Florida, Mike DeWine of Ohio and Mike Crapo of Idaho.
Don't know Graham's politics that well, and don't have time tonight to research it, but if Reid wants him, there's got to be something wrong.
They discussed the call but I missed most of the response. I was not pleased with his conciliatory tone during the last month. I felt very good after this interview.
Trust and verify. Trust has been abused too many times. He must spent much political capital before I count him other than squish RINO peach.
I'll never trust that little backstabber again. Nothing he says can make him any more trustworthy.
I would also like to see the transcript. What I heard left no room for doubt.
Graham is a weasel !!! He is trying to abate the response he is getting from the folks in SC because of his wobbly stance.
I still think Bush should nominate Janice Rogers Brown (on the non-filibuster list) and dare them to filibuster.
Remember that the Dems do not control the timetable, unlike in the past. All they can do is (1) complain or (2) filibuster.
