SEN. SCHUMER CAUGHT ON CELLPHONE: 'WE ARE GOING TO WAR' OVER SUPREME COURT

**Exclusive**

Senate Judiciary Committee member Chuck Schumer got busy plotting away on the cellphone aboard a Washington, DC-New York Amtrak -- plotting Democrat strategy for the upcoming Supreme Court battle.

Schumer promised a fight over whoever the President’s nominee was: “It's not about an individual judge… It's about how it affects the overall makeup of the court.”

The chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee was overheard on a long cellphone conversation with an unknown political ally, and the DRUDGE REPORT was there!

Schumer proudly declared: “We are contemplating how we are going to go to war over this.”

Schumer went on to say how hard it was to predict how a Supreme Court justice would turn out: “Even William Rehnquist is more moderate than they expected. The only ones that resulted how they predicted were [Antonin] Scalia and [Ruth Bader] Ginsburg. So most of the time they've gotten their picks wrong, and that's what we want to do to them again.”

Schumer later went on to mock the “Gang of 14” judicial filibuster deal and said it wasn’t relevant in the Supreme Court debate.

“A Priscilla Owen or Janice Rogers Brown style appointment may not have been extraordinary to the appellate court but may be extraordinary to the Supreme Court.”

By the time the train hit New Jersey, Schumer shifted gears and called his friend and “Gang of 14” member, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham.

The two talked in a very friendly manner about doing an event sometime this week together.

Developing…

Interesting I had forgotten Thompson was from Tennesee.

We need to make a big deal out of that "loss". I hope the wheels come off her cart early.

That does make a bit of sense.

Frist may very well look up to Thomson and having him there may give Frist that boost.

If true, I don't want him as a President, but I DO hope that gives him the chutzpah to push hard.

I think that the 2006 election COULD be almost as interesting as the 2004 election if WE the people use the anger we feel now to replace (if possible) any and all that think they can get away with this stuff.

I'd love to see McCain and Graham lose when they're up for reelection. And Snowe and Collins of Maine. . . . Oh heck, I'd like to see all 7 Republicans in the Gang of 14 get turned out of office!

It's so funny about Graham, though. He really did have a future, but he blew it by associating himself so closely with McCain and by mistaking a loud and no-long-influential minority (the liberal media) for the voters of America.

By the way, I love your tag line, and I concur!

Janice Rogers Brown is conservative. The New York Times is ginning up the fight about Gonzales -- I think they're pushing for Gonzales for many reasons. None that will help Bush or us. If Bush want Gonzales, he can put him in once the Court is safely conservative. Not now.

Someone, quick, get the video of Schumer accusing Janice Rogers Brown of trying to "Stop our SOCIALIST REVOLUTION".

Wow, little McCain Jr. will probably be kissing up to Chuckles on some lame punditry show this Sunday.

I know that McCain, Graham and Warner have gotten together and sent a request for a congressional hearing about the abuse cases (?) at Gitmo----

So, Graham, fresh off of his media attention from the Gang of 14, is yet again, clinging to McCains buckle, so maybe HE can get to be a media darling like McCain...maybe a running mate? blech!

Hey, Upchuck, don't you know the train has ears???? Guess ol' smarmy Schumer is so arrogant and self-important, he thought he could say anything he wanted and the sheeple would think it was gospel.

Worlds of difference. Taping a phone call by eavesdropping with electronic equipment by pulling the signal out of the ether (Gingrich) is different than overhearing Schmucky's big mouth broadcast to everyone within listening distance.

I don't think you got the memo: There already was a groundswell of support for the "nuclear" option. The GOP, natch, caved.

Well, first you use something called ears.

Then you use those objects called ears and use them to hear what the person next to you is saying on the phone. I doubt proud Chuckie was very soft in his voice.

It isn't complicated, nor is it illegal.

If conservatives are made to look "loony," that's not a bad price to pay if the end result is to keep another Souter off the court. I'm sure that a lot of conservatives regret that they didn't act more "loony" when Souter, Kennedy, and Stevens were being considered.

I am sure that Congressman-for-life (Bagdad) Jim McDim-whit from Washington State can provide Chuckie S with some advice and how to go after Drudge for leaked cell phone calls.

Personally, I think that this shows just how partisan things are in DC. I suspect that as soon as the American people figure this out, there will be even fewer democrats in the Senate and House. (At least one can hope so.) Give the dem's enough rope and they will hang themselves. Chuckie is well on his way of doing this.
