I voted for Reagan. Not that I think he was better than Washington, but if Washington had won everyone would have shrugged. Reagan winning makes news.

Actually Eisenhower was known as a do nothing president

Turns out that he cultivated that impression very assiduously. More recent scholarship has shown that Ike was in fact very engaged, especially (and naturally) on the foreign policy side of things. And very wily, too.

Considering that Elvis and Oprah were higher in the list than Thomas Jefferson, this has to be the dumbest popularity contest ever.

Shows the state of American education. George Washingotn was in a class of his own. Ronaldus Maximus is right up there, though, after Lincoln perhaps.

Agree. Any such contest, even lame ones like this one, should only be about who's the 2nd greatest.

Washington is Number 1 by a mile for anyone the least bit familiar with our history.

"Ditto. Without Washinton, Reagan would have been a British subject."

Without Franklin we would all have been British Subjects as well. Without his diplomatic efforts with France and England during the fight for Independence the Colonies would never have survived the war.

"I voted for Reagan. Not that I think he was better than Washington, but if Washington had won everyone would have shrugged. Reagan winning makes news."

Which just goes to illustrate just one of the reasons why these type things are so useless.

Agreed. While I like W he has yet to finish his debt to his country. Reagen paid his in full. Madison, Jefferson, and TR should be listed up there.

Without Washinton, Reagan would have been a British subject.

OTOH, Reagan changed the history of the world in facing-down communism (along with John Paul II and Thatcher).
