A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Yes, FRiends, it's another Finest "Play Day"!
We should be visiting another state today, but the 'Finest Tour Bus' is in the shop for repairs (again!). So, we will be staying home and having a play day instead. For those of you who have your heart set on traveling, you are welcome to re-visit any or all of our Finest states below..... :-)
...the rest of us will stay here and
Being 8 Years Old Again
I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year-old again.
- I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant.
- I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks.
- I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them.
- I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.
- I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.
- I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good.
- I want to believe that anything is possible.
- I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.
- I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.
- I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.
So, here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, 'cause...
"Tag! You're it!"
And have a wonderful Wednesday!

Most towns/cities have at least one & often more monuments to the fallen from WW1. Guess since we have a major DC memorial, encompassing acres, to every other war, it seems fitting to have one for this one also.
Re: mom.. still on floor, on mattress. We are making things go as well as possible . She has a lot of pain, but based on what she can/cannot do, I am certain there is not a break. I strongly suggested & she did not fight, just staying put for many more days & I re- did the TV , her "stuff" etc so that she can enjoy the new vantage.
Now if it sounds harsh for her to be on floor.. she is on an wonderful ( and expensive air mattress.. that I had in Houston)... I have been sleeping on floor w/o mattress for 3 years now. My back is so much better. I have a very good mattress on my bed but the floor is better for me. I just have a quilt doubled over between me & the carpet.
I recall my several weeks in Japan , years ago NOT being able to sleep on the rolled mats on the floor that they provided at the tea houses where we stayed. It does take getting used to.
I have strongly cut down her food intake (I told her we are both on diets) and she cannot get to the food stuffs/frig etc in her room.
Thanks for asking. How are your folks? How often do you & dad go to visit her?

regardless of who's vandalizing these monument, it's a real shame that the actions of those who payed the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and justice in our countries are being disregarded by the maliscious destruction of these monument meant to honor them.

Hi fivekid.. not sure we have "met" before, but let me add my two cents re: BIL / little bro...
Men need to be appreciated & respected. If he is falling now on hard times (I am guessing you mean economically) and this will help him, it is NOT bad. The fact that he is considering this line of thought is indicative that he did feel appreciated & respected when he was on active duty.
If he doesn't go he will always regret it. If he does go there are several outcomes which we are all aware of. If he understands the possibility of outcomes/costs, which I am sure he does, he needs all the encouragement & support he can get from his loved ones.
Someone merely bailing him out of his current financial dilemma would not be very good for him in long run. Again he will feel like a failure, needy etc.
Good to meet you here & keep us posted on him, okay?

I go and visit mum at least twice a week and dad goes at least once. Now the better weather is here dad is back driving so that helps and recently the car passed its MOT so we do not have to relay on a friend to take us.
Thanks for update on your mom glad to hear that she does not have a break.

The Melting Pot is a wonderful fondue restaurant that FreeTheHostages introduced me and JustAmy to when we were back in DC for the Inaugural Ball.
The Melting Pot
It was fabulous - the dessert fondue especially!
My photo files are a complete disaster, but if I can locate some of the photos I took while there, I will post a few. :-)

Indeed Pippin about a couple of years ago it happened several weeks in a row but they have upped the security and I have not heard of any further attacks so hopefully this has now stopped.
