Yesterday we were within a few hours of a historic vote to allow the U.S. Senate to exercise its constitutional option to confirm judges by majority vote. That vote would have allowed all pending nominees and future Supreme Court nominees to receive an "up or down" vote, and paved the way for President Bush to more effectively restore the judiciary to its proper constitutional role by appointing to the federal bench judges who are not activists.
The votes were there to pass it. But today, in exchange for allowing a few judges to receive full votes, seven Republicans betrayed their colleagues and Majority Leader Frist and sacrificed the principle that the filibuster should not be used to block judicial nominees - a Senate tradition in place for more than 200 years. Remember Justice Clarence Thomas? He was confirmed by a vote of 52-48 while Democrats controlled the Senate, just 14 years ago! Why wasn't he filibustered?
Because to filibuster a judicial nominee was unthinkable to Democrats 14 years ago. This "deal" is a disaster and a sell-out of the "values voters" who believed Republican promises that reigning in an out-of-control judiciary was their top priority. Conservative senators and national leaders are outraged.
If you are disappointed in Sen. McCain's role in facilitating this decision to snatch defeat and compromise from the jaws of victory, please call him at 202-224-2235 or email him at john_ mccain@mccain.senate.gov and let him know how you feel.
I'll let McStain know what I think, when he runs for President, without saying a word.
really, tell me why he can't raise his arms above his head?
this is the way you treat vets?
Appears to me that many here try and drag out his POW status so that they can deflect the rage against him now.
I can assure you that I am outraged at McCain now and have been for two prior episodes. I don't need to go back to his service days to find complaints against him.
He will never have respect from me. I see him as he is - a traitor in our midst. And that is based on his actions today - not 30 years ago.
I already did. Even though I'm a constituent, this dirtbag has plenty of Democrats, Independents, and illegals more than willing to keep voting him into office. He doesn't need us conservatives. He's a "maverick", ya know.
Any state that would vote Butch Napolitano and Jim Kolbe into office has real problems, not just McCain.
"Nothing cushy about being shot down and held hostage by the NVETS"
I agree but I have heard stories by those who were in Hanoi Hilton of special treatment for Admiral's sons. I wasn't there.
Leave on account of seven RINO's? Hell no. If you feel betrayed, don't let me stop you from leaving.
Sorry to rant but in my minds eye since his military service and in regards to his affiliation with what is supposed to be the conservative party, he is a traitor and has been for quite a while. He has chosen to show little if any fidelity to the Constitution of this Republic contrary to both his Oath as a Naval Officer and an elected representative, much less his poitical party and the leader of that party currently occupying the WH.
Not meant to disparage you at all. All my thoughts are about Senator McQueeg. He is a nut case and not fit for service in this Republic.
Agree with both of you -- only cares about himself and he could care less about what conservatives think -- Dan you are right -- only the media matters.
McCain might as well team with Hillary because he'll NEVER get the Republican vote. We will unify so fast on an anti-McCain ticket in the primary it'll make his wobbly head spin.
None of the above, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night
McCain is a liberal headcase masquerading as a conservative. He didn't disappoint conservatives who have the slightest knowledge of his past actions any more than Hitlery Clinton or upChuck Schemer disappoint conservatives because he ain't one.
You're losing the battle, dude.
As a Navy guy, I know that normal people do not get a second and third chance to crash during training.
Normal people do not crash on the deck of a carrier, then get sent back to do it again...
Sure, it's not easy. I have flown lots of aircraft, but never jets onto a carrier. I've only been a passenger, once, in a catapulted take-off. Wow!
A friend flew A-6's off the Coral Sea, and described his experiences landing a night. He described it as hours of bliss (flying) interrupted by seconds of sheer terror (landing)! I don't need my butt puckered that much!
A hero can still be a traitor.
John McCain is not a hero, for being in a prison camp. He is a serviceman, that crashed, got caught, and held. As such, we should reward him with thanks, for his service, but not adulation. We don't need to give him the keys to anything! He sat, and we fought to get him (them) out.
Almost every day, a pilot lands on a carrier. Then he does it again, and again, for practice... If he can't make it flying properly, then he gets a desk (unless he is an admiral's son, of course).
McCain has never been a hero. He is just a returned prisoner of war... and tries to make us think he is our buddy, while doing this shiite!
As for me, he can now go back to VietNam. They'll still love him!

"President Bush has established a solid record of nominating only judges who have demonstrated respect for the Constitution and the democratic processes of our republic, and Republicans in the Senate have strongly supported those nominees. We call upon obstructionist Democrats in the Senate to abandon their unprecedented and highly irresponsible filibuster of President Bushs highly qualified judicial nominees, and to allow the Republican Party to restore respect for the law to Americas courts."
trai·tor ( P ) Pronunciation Key (trtr) n.
One who betrays one's country, a cause, or a trust, especially one who commits treason.
In light of the above, I feel that McCain and the rest of his band of thugs can rightfully be called traitors to the party and the people which funded thier campaigns and elected them to office.
On that we can agree.
I also fired off one to his pretty little dog, McGraham, also.

Now that reply is funny.
