You really think McCain et al care about Bush? Look who's really clueless.

It will be interesting to see how many votes Brown, Owens, Pryor get on the floor. Especially if they get at least 60.

I hope so. They tried to block Condi and it didn't work. She's doing good so far.

Yes she is but that isn't a lifetime appointment. And Condi only serves as long as the President sees fit.

we commit to oppose the rules changes in the 109th Congress

Not for this Congress. How can this possibly be a good deal?

Well .. ad buys are done in advance so there was no way of knowing the RINO's would have made a deal. But .. it does show that the dems were not planning on the repubs caving.

Well it wasn't me, but you are right.

I suppose the writer could have listed every cave-in the Republicans have ever done, but there is not enough data storage capability with IBM, EMC and Veritas combined to hold all that data.

Needles to say . . .

The Republican'ts ALWAYS cave-in.

"and the GOP leaders did not have to promise that they would not try to change the rules in the future --"

My understanding of this compromise is that it included vows by the RINO members of this committee to never support stripping away the minority right to philibuster. If these 7 RINOs agreed to that, we don't have the votes to pull out the nuclear option and we likely will never have it again.

All we can do now is watch.

Finally, someone who picks oiut the key clause in the MOU between the two groups of seven senators each: "B. Rules Changes. In light of the spirit and continuing commitments made in this agreement, we commit to oppose the rules changes in the 109th Congress, which we understand to be any amendment to or interpretation of the Rules of the Senate that would force a vote on a judicial nomination by means other than unanimous consent or Rule XXII."

The way I read that clause, the right-wing crazies now have just 48 senators available to vote for the nuclear option.

McCain and his fellow wannabe GOP mavericks will be forced to express their "dissapointment" that the Dem centrists broke their word. The offended RINO's then have almost no choice but to go with the constitutional option as they will look like fools trusting the Democrats again.

I wouldn't buy that for a dollar. RINO's couldn't care LESS and never, never get offended unless it's at the "extreme relgious right".

It really is an institution--they have acted like inmates lately.

LOL. Good summary of the deal. Thanks.

Frist didn't have 50 votes to adhere to the Constitution. The people are stupid and/or lazy, if they tolerate it.

I personally liked Frist. I will withhold my judgement about whether he caved in. But the one poster who says REPUBLICANS ALWAYS CAVE IN! is right. Senate Repubs caved in on impeachment. The elder Bush caved in on taxes. They caved in and got Ginsberg ans Stevens. What standout Supreme Court nominee have the Pubbies gotten us in 17 years? (besides Scalia, Rehnquist, and Thomas) Souter? O'conner? etc who see gay and abortion rights behind every tree?

Yes, I think this makes it likely we will lose the White House in '08, and quite possibly lose seats (and most of our clout) in the Senate in '06. An utter disaster today.

there promoting his movie which we will not watch.

Now, the question is, do we have the 'spine' not to watch that movie... do we?... by not watching it, we would excercise our power, the ratings would suffer some what. For me is not a problem since I always disliked McCain, now, oh well. I pledge not to watch his worthless friking story... sorry, I am pissed!

Frist isn't giving up. He is saying now is that if the Dems fillibuster any nominee, he will present the nuclear option "to all 100 Senators." He just said so explicitly.

The problem is, as the memo of agreement that was signed by these idiots, that the rinos will OPPOSE changing the rules in the 109th congress. This equals business as usual except that the dems are allowing us votes on 3 judges.

They just talked too long and allowed squishy Pubs to get even more squishy.

Frist should have nuked this a month ago.

The Dems have just agreed to confirm 3 most "extreme" judges that they had been blocking for years, and agreed to no filibusters, except under extraordinary circumstances. In return, the Republican side agreed to no rule change... but if the Dems fail to live up to their end of the deal, then even the squishy moderates will be happy to "Nuke".

After some reflection..... that's my take also.

Plus I believe Frist will be pushing to get more than those 3 on the floor for a vote.

The wife and I won't waste our time time venting spleen on the staff insulated senate GOP jerks.

But the GOP National Committee now knows we are switching to a third party, and it matters not a damn which third party.

Anything is better than this spineless herd of neutered RINO wusses, they are worthless as teats on a boar.
