[history]
Newsweek's false, retracted story about American guards flushing the Koran down a toilet at Guantanamo doesn't necessarily mean the magazine's staff hates America or Bush, or wants us to lose in Iraq. To be charitable, let's just chalk that one up to sloppy journalism.
But I'm at a loss to explain this, from the February 2 issue of Newsweek's Japanese edition:
As you can see, the cover story shows an American flag, dirtied and tossed in a trash can, its staff snapped in two. The large white text reads, "Amerika ga shinda hi", which translates to "The day America died."
The equivalent international edition of Newsweek, the January 31 issue, featured a picture of Bush on the cover, with the caption "America Leads ...But is Anyone Following?": Both of the above editions featured a cover-story article by Andrew Moravcsik, titled "Dream on, America". (This was translated into Japanese as "Yume no kuni Amerika ga kuchihateru toki", which is even harsher; it means, roughly, "America, the dream country, is rotting away".) According to Newsweek itself, the article described "the world's rejection of the American way of life."
Moravcsik's article did not run in the American edition of that same issue. The cover was also a bit different. It featured Hilary Swank, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx, with the title "Oscar Confidential:
If you look carefully, you'll see that one of the articles from the other two editions is mentioned in a small blurb at the top: Fareed Zakaria's "High Hopes, Hard Facts" here billed as "A reality check on Bush & 'Freedom'". Sure, they put scare quotes around "Freedom", but pretty tame stuff, all things considered.
It's one thing for Newsweek to actively promote the notion that America is a "dead", "rotting" country overseas. But it's quite another thing indeed to hide those efforts from its American readers. If Newsweek really thinks America is dead, and our flag belongs in the trash, why won't it tell us?
If I were to offer Newsweek a suggestion, it would be this: Any story or cover you're ashamed to run in America probably shouldn't be used in other countries, either. Source

Newsweek is owned by the Washington Com-Post. Fake but accurate is the MSM motto these days. This is coming from the same group of characters that invented Deep Throat. This is why they will never point out who deep throat was. These guys are slugs in a cest pool..

Is it possible to declare an all out war on Newsweek? I mean their has to be a way to put them out of business.

America dead? Morally and spiritually comatose, if not dead. Having spent most of my years since 1990 in China, the Russian Pacific Maritime Region and the Philippines, I can tell you what Chinese (in general), Russians (in general) and Filipinos (in general) think about America.
I have noticed for years that Newsweek, and other periodicals too, publish different editions in Asia, and they usually don't tell Americans what they are saying overseas. But when I saw the American edition cover, my fist thought was that Asians think that that is Exactly ALL America is today: the likes FD Swank, Dicaprio and Foxx. Asians think that America is EXACTLY what they see from the Hollywood entertainment industry.
While we import auto jacks and generators from China, we export Hollywood, soap operas, Rock-n-Roll, filthy-mouthed Rap music, sleazy fashion, vulgarity, etc., etc. to China.
One Chinese leader once said, "When we opened the door to the west, we forgot to install a screen door!"

This kind of stuff puts not only our soldiers and Americans in general at more risk but also our First Lady who traveled to the Middle East. Are there no bounds?

Outright treason?Wish it were so,but they know just how far they can push the bias/hate US envelope. They hide behind concepts like freedom of the press, but we know what they're really about. The best we can do is just don't purchase rags like time and newsweek.

Newsweek Japan printing this shows exactly what the employees of the magazine think of us. With that in mind, What we need to do is keep an eye on Japan in the near future.

Propaganda Week might be a more appropriate title for the stealth news weekly. SOS, as creamed chip beef on toast is known is some circles might also apply.

ARE YOU SERIES? Does this story have legs? I hope it makes a hugh impact!

Does newsweak still have White House credentials? IMO, they should no longer be allowed in the press briefings, with the MAJOR news organizations. Give 'em the boot!

Be a REAL shame if this came to Rush Limbaugh's attention...That comment deserves a bump. 24/7 subscribers who see this thread, please forward it to him.

Someone suggested using the postage paid postcards for new subscribers, which are inserted in the magazines, to send comments on Newsweek false Koran story and other anti-American stories. You can get some next time you go to the dctor or dentist.Great idea!
I guess it would be really, really wrong to just rip them out of the copies in the store... I mean, I would be sending them a message but depriving others of the chance to subscribe. ;-)

I can just imagine what the Arabic edition looks like. Can anyone post an image of the cover of the Arabic edition?

Newsweek and all who work for it are trash but, the first amendment protects them.
They dont seem to realize that by promoting the Socialist (read liberal Democrat) agenda, they are writing themselves right into the loss of said free speech. |
