The first election results are in...mail ballots only.
Rounding off the numbers, it come out to 51% for Villaraigosa and 49% for Hahn.
Do these numbers look better for either candidate?
Opinions anyone?
Who won, Tax or Spend?
Yup. Saw Meathead. Blah.
Well, at the moment, it's a wait and see. Though I don't see anything good coming out of a Antonio's admistration, Hahn wasn't exactly a saint either.
LOL, very funny . . . good question!
"Who won, Tax or Spend?"
Tax AND Spend will win.
Villaraigosa has this in the bag. Villaraigosa has 58% to 42%. Although the valley precients are reporting in slowly, I seriously doubt that Hahn can over come that.
Interesting though, according to the Channel 9 exit poll (yeah, not exactly accurate), a majority of Asian Americans are actually voting for Hahn. And somehow, this surprises the commentator. Hmmmmmm.
Asians were and are Hahn's strongest constituency. I am not sure why. Maybe it is the law and order thingie.
Asians probably like his reserved demeanor.
It is a weakness with just about every other demographic.
Tax AND Spend will win
Mexico won!!!!!!!!!
Good observation. And of course, Asians are not plugged into the main power arteries in the town. They are too busy making money in the private sector, and have not figured out how to purchase local hack politicians yet. Give them time.
In a city that lacks a true conservative candidate, best choice would be Hahn.
**26% reporting, Villaraigosa is way ahead. 55.7 to 44.27.
What is the matter with people?!**
The demographics of the country have been changing for the last 40 years (and continue to do so), and changing for the worse.
Therefore the pool of voters is shifting with dire consequences. It won't be long now before America will have lost its consensus.
Vietnamese live in Orange County, not LA. LA is Chinese and Korean primarily.

Forgot about that. Still, I was commenting on how Asians are generally more conservative. First thing that came to mind was Vietamese since they are pretty much overwhelmingly conservative.
Though even Chinese and Koreans are generally more conservative. Though with some recent immigration from Red China, and the later generations being more lazy (i.e. more Democratic. :-P) you are getting more Democratic voters here. That and you get the case where, sure, we believe in hard work, strong families, etc. but we're still voting Democrat voters.
Still, I will say that Asians are not that powerful politically yet.
SurveyUSA's final poll had it 60 to 36:

Antonio had almost a free ride when Hahn barely limped to a runoff. Hertzberg vs Antonio would have been razor thin close.
Has any group ventured a guess as to how many illegals would be voting in this election?

I found that article about Villaraigosa's support for gangs. (I've seen some years ago too, but this is a recent one)
Hahn's Anti-Gang Plan Has Its Skeptics
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-me-gangs4apr04,1,6442181.story?coll=la-home-local&ctrack=1&cset=true
Mayor James K. Hahn's latest crime-fighting proposal is breathtaking in scope: an injunction prohibiting Los Angeles gang members from congregating anywhere within the city's roughly 470 square miles.
Introducing the topic even with few specifics and no overt support from local law enforcement officials has allowed Hahn to project a tough-on-crime message. And it has given him a pretext to argue that Villaraigosa is weak on crime.
The day after he announced the plan, Hahn told reporters that Villaraigosa "took the side of the gang members" in a 1992 lawsuit that challenged a law banning gangs from a San Fernando city park. Villaraigosa was the sole plaintiff in the suit, which raised civil liberties issues similar to those raised in gang injunction cases.
At the time, Villaraigosa was vice president of the Southern California chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has challenged a number of California gang injunctions and remains one of the chief critics of the tactic.
Hahn said his proposal would build on the success of the 25 gang injunctions currently in place throughout Los Angeles that affect almost a quarter of the 39,565 gang members identified by police.
Nine of those injunctions were won by Hahn when he served as city attorney from 1985 to 2001. Hahn said it was time to take the idea citywide to avoid simply moving gangs from one neighborhood to another a criticism of injunctions that Villaraigosa leveled in the 2001 campaign.
Despite how many back him, Villaraigosa is a dangerous racist who is one of those la-raza activists.
I can see the man causing lots of problems with race in this city. He's too stupid to be subtle with his bigotry.
Look for more disruptions in gangs, riots and violence in general IMO.
"Mexico won!!!!!!!!!"
You got that right.
