U.S. Border Patrol agents have been ordered not to arrest illegal aliens along the section of the Arizona border where protesters patrolled last month because an increase in apprehensions there would prove the effectiveness of Minuteman volunteers, The Washington Times has learned.

Earlier this week, I heard an ad from Lonegan, a candidate for governor in New Jersey. He mentioned illegal immigrants.
This morning, I heard Jon Corzine on Imus. He mentioned illegal immigrants.
Whether Washington likes it or not, this issue is on the radar.
Wait until somebody blames the Social Security issue on illegal immigrants. They will cruise to electoral victory.
"Somehow I do not think that "Tucson and Naco BP supervisors" make the calls on Immigration Policy. I think you need to look further up the ladder to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave."
Oh no, it's John Kerry's fault!
Wait a second, he didn't win but this was what we feared would happen if he did.
What indignities will we suffer next???!!! Campaign Finance "reform?" Prescription drug giveaways? A bloated budget? The President holding hands with Saudi dictators?
I better not take that line of thought further before I get myself banned. ;)
I dont think the President micromanages the Border Patrol like Johnson and McNamara did to DoD in VietNam.
THis was an inexcusable local face saving move, for the Tucson and Naco sector chiefs who derided the Minutemen. Since the Minutemen did a a good job with their publicity, they have to prove the Minutemen wrong; even if it means not arresting anyone for months on end, to show the numbers were lower due to other reasons than the Minutemen.
The Minutemen: true American patriots then---true American patriots now.
And if the modern day Minutemen are "vigilantes," as the contemporary George says, so were the Minutemen of 1776 that stood up to the George of their era.
God bless America. God destroy the traitors that would hand any part of America's territory or sovereignty to Mexico.
Am I missing something? Wouldn't the BP want to INCREASE arrests to prove the ineffectiveness of the Minutemen? I don't understand how holding arrests down after the Minutemen have gone proves the BP can handle the job alone.

Sounds like it's about time to bury some ammo and well cosmolined firearms, and to store the GPS coords in a safe place.
President Clinton II here we come.
Maybe now someone can answer my question?
It means they want to pretend like there wasn't really a problem in the first place, and that the MMP didn't really have any effect at all.
It aint all Boosh's fault. We have some local RINO Heavyweights here too.

Ah. Seems to me it would make more sense (for those opposed to protecting our borders) to increase arrests after the Minutemen were gone... then they could say, "See, who needs them guys?"
I glanced at the headline and hadn't yet clicked to the story before a short reply. Honest mistake. Excuse me for living.
And his name is George W. Bush.
BP management has always played politics with the apprehension numbers. Their orders even have a name among the agents - "sitting on an X".
Tough crowd tonight!
The original story was posted, and I pinged it, last week.
Sorry for the curt response.
What about Chucky "Anti-Gun" Schumer...
Remember his disgraceful performance during the Waco Hearings?
Do these folks support the right of illegal immigrants to own guns?
