Arizona Gov Shoots Down Official Language Bill

* Lawmakers Are Considering Similar Proposal

May 10, 2005 8:00 am US/Eastern PHOENIX (AP) Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed a bill Monday that would have made English the state’s official language and required that government business be conducted in English.

Supporters said the measure was needed to encourage assimilation of immigrants, but opponents said it was an attack on illegal immigrants.

In her veto letter, Napolitano said non-English speakers should be encouraged to learn the language, but that the bill did not do anything to achieve that.

Lawmakers have yet to fund adequately school programs for English learners, she said. “Under these circumstances, making English the only language for official action is contradictory at best,” Napolitano wrote.

Congress should have made English the official language years ago.

"Lawmakers have yet to fund adequately school programs for English learners.."

What is there to fund? School is taught in English period! Governor Napolitano is not representing Arizona; she is representing illegal aliens on all fronts.

This Governor should be recalled.

I guess we have to say the truth -- the legal voters voted HER in and rejected the "English" vote. The buck, therefore, stops with the voters. It usually does.
Payback is such a bitch.

Her opponent was a Mormon, and there are people out there who thought that it would be a better idea to vote for a Dyke like Governor Butch Napolitano rather than a "pagan Mormon."

The electorate of Arizona was overwhelmingly Anglo in 2002.

All actions like this are adding up.

The illegal immigration support base is like an ever expanding upside pyramid. The supporters are shrinking and the numbers of us who want the borders closed are growing by the day. Every pro-immigration action perpertrated by some hard-headed "official" further renforces the outrage and resolve to stop illegal immigration....and not to be subjected to the embarassement of not being able to tell the person that is selling you a hamburger how you want it because that person cannot understand, let alone speak English.

The outrage is growing.......soon this problem WILL be addressed....if officaldom will not do it, We, the People will do it.
