...non-English speakers should be encouraged to learn the language, but that the bill did not do anything to achieve that.

Requiring ALL government business to be done in ENGLISH is a big incentive........No speakey Engey, No Welfarey.....

"...opponents said it was an attack on illegal immigrants."

There is a problem with that?

"Lawmakers have yet to fund adequately school programs for English learners.."

What is there to fund? School is taught in English period! Governor Napolitano is not representing Arizona; she is representing illegal aliens on all fronts.

This Governor should be recalled.

All actions like this are adding up.

The illegal immigration support base is like an ever expanding upside pyramid. The supporters are shrinking and the numbers of us who want the borders closed are growing by the day. Every pro-immigration action perpertrated by some hard-headed "official" further renforces the outrage and resolve to stop illegal immigration....and not to be subjected to the embarassement of not being able to tell the person that is selling you a hamburger how you want it because that person cannot understand, let alone speak English.

The outrage is growing.......soon this problem WILL be addressed....if officaldom will not do it, We, the People will do it.

Lawmakers have yet to fund adequately school programs for English learners, she said.

Huh? Don't they fund Gub'mint schools in AZ? I think they still teach English in Gub'mint schools don't they?

Surprise, surprise. Election time is fast approaching, however, and Prop 200 is still law.

Now, if the AZGOP can just put up a halfway decent candidate, we might have a chance.

Someone explain to me how the good people of Arizona elected a worthless hag to statewide office.

In addition to McCain, how did they elect this woman governor?

Darn, I hate being right about this! I said in a previous thread that the gov. would not sign this. The question is now does the state legislature have the guts to over ride the veto.

A constitutional amendment to make English the official language in Arizona will likely be passed next November by the voters (if the black robed tyrants deign to allow it, that is). Prop 200 passed easily, so will this.

Our state GOP ran a guy that had just been busted out for a several hundred million dollar boondoogle when he was in the state senate (add Fife Symington having to resign as gov not long before for malfeasance...). Napolitano barely won even with that. J.D. Hayworth would wipe the floor with her, but he won't run for it right now. Randy Graf wants to take Kolbe's seat in the House, so he is out. We are going to have to find someone.

Supporters said the measure was needed to encourage assimilation of immigrants, but opponents said it was an attack on illegal immigrants.

There need to be *more* "attacks" on illegal immigration.

Florida has a consititutional amendment making english the state language.

Does not seem to bother the miami cubans or the Palm Beach Brazilians.
