2008 Contender Senator George Allen's Comments On Illegal Immigration
KFI Am 640 Los Angeles ^ | 05/02/05 | Me

Posted on 05/02/2005 1:31:49 PM PDT by GOPGuide

Last Monday or Tuesday I heard George Allen talking on the John And Ken Show in Los Angeles.

Since Allen is considered by many to be the Conservative front runner for the Presidency in 2008, I thought I would type here what I heard Allen's positions were regarding Illegal Immigration so people in the future can use it to determine whether they want to vote for him in the primaries.

What Allen Said was that it was "ridiculous" that the we are "shaking down" old ladys and children at ports and airports but we are continuing to leave the borders wide open.

Allen also said it was "nonsense" that we are securing Iraq and Afghanistan's borders but doing nothing about our Southern Border.

He said that he "opposed" President Bush's Guest Worker program and that Allen was proud he voted against the AgJobs Amnesty bill in the Senate recently.

Furthermore Allen is not a cosponsor of ANY of the dozen or so Amnesty bills floating around the Senate like the "Dream Act" and such.

Allen also said he was one of the few Senators to meet with the Minutemen project organizers and that he "supported" them and understood them.

John and Ken did not ask Allen whether he supports putting troops on the border, but Allen did sound pretty conservative on every Illegal Alien question they asked the Senator.

PS:

I am NOT saying I agree or disagree with Allen's statements, I am merely listing them for people's future political reference.

Just thought I would record what he said for those who are thinking of supporting his candidacy.

As a conservative, one wonders whether he'll be acceptable as a Republican candidate!

God bless the Senator from Virginia!!

"As a conservative, one wonders whether he'll be acceptable as a Republican candidate!"

Sanford in South Carolina isn't running in 2008 and Owens of Colorado may or may not run so Allen could very well have the Conservative field all to himself because the rest like Rudy, Mccain, Hagel, Patakietc are all RINOS.

Well, he's right about that.

I caught part of Allen's appearance on Meet the Press yesterday. I wasn't impressed.

Russert, typically, tries to corner any 'rightees'. And he effectively did so against Allen on several issues. As a result, Allen appeared fumbling, unsure, indecisive and defensive in many of his responses. Allen is not ready for prime time.

On marriage yes he is as strong as any Conservative GOPer in the House; but on life he is prochoice until the first couple of weeks of pregnancy after which his prolife.

Basically he's a little squishy on life but otherwise he's strong.

He's not known outside of Virginia and that's something he is going to have to work on BIG TIME!

If Allen closes the border, will anyone really care how he sounds on "Meet the Prick"?

"Allen is not ready for prime time"

And fortunately, he's got time to get ready for prime time.....

"He's not known outside of Virginia and that's something he is going to have to work on BIG TIME!"

Nobody knew who Clinton was in 1989 or who Carter was in 1973, or who Mcain was in 1997 or who Dean was in in 2001.

Once you win the primary an unkown candidate becomes a superstar because of all the press coverage.

Wow, this is great news. Allen is actually very electable, I'm going to keep my eyes on him to see if he starts singing a different tune as we get closer to the election.

And anyway Sanford has very poor immigration grades, and Owens went on Scarborough and said he supported Bush's amnesty plan (though I still like Owens if he can get his marriage in order)

Is he firm on life and on marriage?

He's firm on marriage -- supports Marriage Amendment I believe.

On abortion, he's different. He supports protecting unborn children in law -- but he believes life only starts with heartbeat/brainwave (roughly 8 weeks). So he's pro-life from 8 weeks on. I'm not real happy about that, but as far as I can tell it's an honestly held position, unlike all that "I believe it's wrong but should be legal" nonsense. And it would serve to highlight to the public two facts: A) that babies have heartbeat/brainwave very early on and B) it's legal to kill those babies right through 9 months.
