"No way he'll get my vote."

He's 90% of the way there. It's probably the best you'll get, and you have a shot at pushing him the rest of the way.

Maybe you prefer Hillary? Because she makes the right noises on immigration, too......

I don't know the Senator personally but I have talked with several people who do. From what I can tell, Senator Allen is who he says he is. He isn't one to waffle ala John 'Effen. I have heard him once in a town hall meeting and I can tell you he came across as very genuine and EXTREMELY intelligent.

Thanks for the ping.

I wouldn't wager on a senator being elected POTUS though...

If memory serves, I think JFK & Harding were the only two senators elected to POTUS in the 20th century. Of course Nixon, LBJ & Truman were former senators who became VP then POTUS.

Newt isn't going to be President either.
Newt had his time in the sun - he's old news.

I'm not that impressed -- why hasn't he authored immigration reform legislation in the Senate? And his voting record is only mediocre on this issue. Anybody knows what to say on the John and Ken show. I'm tired of talk.

the Dems who are going to run a hard campaign in 2008.

Yes, and historically, it has been difficult for one major party to retain the WH after they have had it for 2 consecutive terms. That works in Hillary's favor.

Bush2-R wins after 2 term Clinton
Bush1-R wins 1 term after 2 term Reagan who defeated 1 term Carter-D
Carter wins after Ford finishes Nixon's 2nd term.
Johnson bows out of a 2nd term.

The pendulum swings -- and it may be swinging toward the Dems for 08.

"I wouldn't wager on a senator being elected POTUS though... "

If it's Hillary vs Allen, it will be Senator vs Senator and the Constitution says one Senator's got to win.

And, IIRC, Allen beat Mary Sue Terry for governor (god, I hope my memory is right on this). So, he won't have the crap that Lazio had to deal with when Hillary ran for Senate.

"I'm not that impressed -- why hasn't he authored immigration reform legislation in the Senate?"

Because the Senate is so wimpy they would never pass it.

"And his voting record is only mediocre on this issue."

Those grades are based on only two votes.

"Anybody knows what to say on the John and Ken show. I'm tired of talk."

LOL - 90% of all politicians AVOID John And Ken because of the Illegal Alien questions.

Is he firm on life and on marriage?<<<

I hope he is, but if our borders are not secure, life and marriage will be moot points!

I've never been a single-issue voter, but I plan to be one in 2008.

well after Bubba got elected and reelected, I quit wagering on elections. LOL

Of course Clinton still has to win her senate seat next year...
I'm hoping someone in NY has the stones and the bank to run against her. LOL

I can deal with that abortion position; it's not mine (for me it begins at conception) but it's well-thought out, choosing the heartbeat/brainwave beginning. It also will really show up the "therapeutic" abortions currently being performed in the 5th month of pregnancy every day to poor babies who happen to carry genetic or other defects.

[ Newt isn't going to be President either. Newt had his time in the sun - he's old news. ]

I know ... Americans have grown to become too socialist for their own good.. They talk "conservative" but then "conservative" MEANS more socialism..

DO You know personally ANYBODY that would TURN DOWN a government check.?.
Conservative MEANS socialist only the radicals on the right are anti-socialists.. Conservatives are AFRAID to become radicals.. Thats why they are AFRAID of the leftists in congress.. The leftists are radicals toward the left.. SO they do little or nothing.. because they are AFRAID..

A conservative is a coward..

And John is sharp and quick and reacts to bulls### the way a bull reacts to red. J&K do NOT allow puffy answers and will PUSH for clarification on squishy answers.

Arguments about when life begins aside, George Allen's pro-life voting record is excellent. He always opposes the false notion that abortion is a "right". We need to keep electing Presidents who understand the fallacy of Roe v. Wade because judicial nominations are the key. Plus, and this is a real big plus, George Allen recognizes that we need to control our borders.

So what legislation has this Senator actually introduced and/or sponsored? And what's his record on spending?

I'm inherently skeptical of anyone who is already inside the Beltway.
