If Allen closes the border, will anyone really care how he sounds on "Meet the Prick"?
When he actively starts introducing legislation to do so, then I will reconsider. Otherwise, talk is cheap and it is easy to say he is for/against something; John Kerry was for/against everything for the last 20 years.

If that's the case then most conservatives will probably have a hard time voting for him. I'm not a one issue voter so I have to see the whole package. I'm open right now for anyone who can beat the Dems!

Good thought. :)

Allen is not ready for prime time. FWIW, "Meet the Press" isn't in prime time.
But, trust me, George Allen is ready for prime time.

Allen could well become more conservative on Abortion when he runs - 3 years is a long time.
It wouldn't be that hard for him to "Convert" to a full blown ProLifer since he almost always votes Life on legislation.

Great post and that seals the deal for me. Allen is the next POTUS. While I really, really really, relished the thought of Dr. Rice humiliating the world's smartest woman in three debates, Allen is the man. Maybe she could be VP. and eliminate the stigma of never being elected to a higher office.

The problem is and continues to be: Most of the known-names are Senators; frequently Senators run for the presidency; seldom do Senators win the presidency.
GW was basically annointed the presumptive when he won re-election as Texas governor (1998, IIRC) and no other GOP was that prominent (Dole in 96 was the best the party had at that time).
Unless something significant happens, Kerry and hClinton will face off for the Dem Pary. Thus, the GOP needs to consider who would be best to face the probable winner of that outcome - Hillary.

Like I said - I don't vote on only 1 issue, that would be silly for me to do that. Besides I think if Allen changed his stance people would say he is not being honest yada yada and will question his motives. I believe he should be honest and he seems like he is. I am open to Allen and/or anyone who can beat the pants off the Dems. This race will be tougher than we think if Hillary runs!

I am open to any repub who has a strong record against illegal immigration. If we don't fix this, the country won't be WORTH protecting soon.

That I agree with. I think finally the American public have gotten fed up with it enough to take matters into their own hands. This is going to be a big issue in 2008.

IMHO, Russsert only tries to trap conservatives who might be viable candidates. Since Russert pushed him hard on several questions, then I believe Russert thinks Allen is one to watch.
I think Sen. Allen is getting better at handling Russert. I thought he did much better this time. And he got in a couple of digs at Dodd.

But he has consistently received high marks from the pro-life movement. They were strong supporters of his in his race for Governor. One of his most ardent supporters, Ann Kincaid worked tirelessly for him. And you just don't get more pro-life than Ann.
Sadly cancer took her from us just a few weeks ago.

Newt would chew Russert up and spit him out LIVE or on tape..

For all those concerned about Allen being a senator, it should also be said that Allen was a governor. He served out a single term, as all Virginia governors are limited to, from 1994-1998. He also knocked off Chuck Robb in a competitive contest to win election to the Senate, so he knows how to wage a competitive race.
Plus if it's Hillary or Kerry, it won't matter that much since they all will be from the Senate anyway.
